What's everyone's opinions on Phoenix for a boys name?

I quite like it. I guess it will be mid-heard as Felix quite a lot though.

mis-heard

nordlac · 01/11/2018 23:38

I like it.

Didyeeaye · 01/11/2018 23:48

I like it. It's different but not strange. Makes me think of a cool musician or artist

moredoll · 02/11/2018 01:30

I like it, but I think it sort of narrows his options. He has to be cool.

I like the name lots but what if he’s a specky boff? Don’t did a child a name they can’t carry

MsTSwift · 02/11/2018 07:38

Bold. If he can carry it off will be fab. If not - cruel. Too risky. We nearly went way out with dd1 thank god we didn’t she would have hated it as is now a careful thoughtful quiet 12 year old.

Would your dh himself like to be named Phoenix? If he hesitates there’s your answer.

I know someone who named their boy phoenix. It gets misspelled ALL the time ( including in his red book ) and he often gets called Felix.

I echo what pp's say about placing expectations on a child by giving them an 'out there' name. Unfortunately the phoenix I know is painfully shy, going through a diagnosis for Asperger's and is obviously aware he's not living up to his cool name. He gets singled out all the time and really struggles with that. It wouldn't surprise me if he started going by his more 'normal' middle name at some point.

I'm not got 'weird and wonderful' or unusual names.

As a shy child with a long and fancy name - not unheard of, but uncommon - I hated people asking my name, then repeat it, some times spell it... It really did cause me anxiety as a child (no exaggeration). People make assumptions on a name.

Then the dumb and crude (sexual) nicknames that came later. I can't really elaborate - but I've even had a couple of people do the same - as an adult - (basically idiots who would think 'John' is a weird and wonderful name - granted it's usually 'xxxx????? - ohhhhhhhhh'). I never though that I'd be pulling people up when I'm in my 40s about my stupid name.
