What do you think of Monica for a girl? I really like how it sounds, but the meanings are leader, advisor, alone, lonely :( And I have no idea how you would shorten the name. Mon? Nica?
Any thoughts? Grin

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

How about Monana? It's Dutch. Pennsylvania Dutch.

Perhaps do a little 'Friends' research OP...

(lol at Pennsylvania Dutch but given the OP clearly not a Friends fan surely a heads up is fair..)

Look up Summer With Monika by Roger McGough. A lovely name.
'I spent summer with Monika and she spent summer with me.'

It's still there on the corner of my bookcase. A beautiful reminder of first love and independence.

And, if you appreciate jokes from scouse land: 'Doctor, I keep thinking I'm mouth organ.'
'That's funny I had a girl in here the other day saying the same.'
'That'll be our Monika' Boom Tish.

I've met two Monika/Monicas and they were both amazing. NN Moni

I have a lovely Monica. Gets called Monnie & Nicky equally.

Straightforward, internationally pronounceable, easy to spell. She’s the only one in any classroom, so easier to label everything with just her first name.

I liked the musical connection- Har-Monica (as does she).
Also the fact that St Monica is the patron saint of parents of wayward/disappointing children [as the mother of St Augustine]. I thought that would be useful in later life! Grin

I recommend the name, never had a moment’s regret with it.

Skittlesandbeer · 03/11/2018 03:33

Oh and I nearly forgot. My own private joke in calling my dd Monica.

It was a little rebellion against all the modern angst about what to call your baby.

Moniker means ‘name’, right? So I named my baby the word name. Stick that in your pipes and smoke it, competing grandmas!!

Quantumblue · 03/11/2018 03:49

To paraphrase Hannah Gadsby could we stop shaming Monica Lewinsky and making her the target of jokes?

Quantumblue · 03/11/2018 03:49

And it is a lovely name.

ReginaPhalange89 · 03/11/2018 04:47

I can't make my mind up! I think I do like it.... but I can't really think of anything other than Friends lol.

I could never use it since I have a Phoebe 😂

Miggeldy · 03/11/2018 05:02

No, it's very old fashioned and it's like her out of Friends.
Laughing at Monana and Pennslyvania Dutch. Grin
catch up on Friends OP.

mathanxiety · 03/11/2018 06:04

Like it a lot. I considered it for DD3 but while pg the Lewinsky/Clinton thing hit the news and I reconsidered. I regret it a bit now as of course that is ancient history.

I know two Monicas, one who goes by Nik (occasionally 'knickers') and one who is Mon.
