Or Ollie. What do we think? I don't like Oliver.

The as he should is out of context as I deleted rest (we need an EDIT button!)

It refers to him having a choice. Not the fact that as an adult he should be an Oliver.

I know a few Ollies but they're all Oliver. If you go with Oliver then people will shorten to "Ol" or Olly/Ollie at the first opportunity anyway, and at least he has the option to revert to Oliver when older. I did that with a similar cutesy NN and I'm glad my parents gave me the choice. Also I think Olly looks like Oily, but that's a personal thing!

I like it.

We have an Ollie. He is 16 and still really suits his name.

When we named him, we said his name is Oliver not Ollie as we didn't like Ollie at the time but gradually Ollie grew on us and we now love it. Which Oliver could do for you?

It sounds very silly. Give him a full name with a nickname option.

You say you don't like Oliver. Then I wouldn't name my child Olly!

Another2day · 31/10/2018 10:25

I find Ollie cute for a little girl, short for Olivia. But it's not a name for a grown man imo.

Agree that it expect an Ollie or Olly to be an Oliver on the birth certificate/as an adult and that it's better to give him that choice to make himself as he gets older. BUT if you really don't like Oliver, then don't opt for Olly, Ollie or Oliver.

What about Ali, as a nickname for Alexander or Alistair? Or Ozzie, short for Oscar? Or Jolly, short for Jolyon? Or Billy, short for William?
