Changing our daughter's name at 8 months old?

Hi, I've seen a few posts about this when searching the internet, but they are usually for earlier on in their child's life (a few weeks after). We really liked a popular name, and wanted to call her by a nickname for it, instead we were really put off by the popularity, but found another longer version that we thought was okay and better for her.

I'm actually gutted that we didn't just go for the other one. We only call her by her nickname and everyone knows her as that. It's a nickname that she will most likely use at school as well. It's just I am so off of the name we chose (the full version of it) and when people ask oh is that her full name, I often just say yes, as I know they will ask what her longer name is. I don't think I can keep living like that.

Thoughts on changing it at 8 months in these circumstances please.

Millicent is much nicer than Amelia, and nowhere near as popular.
I imagine Millicent, to be a strong, confident woman.
But if you really want to change it, go ahead.

I think if you’d picked a name that had a different nickname then the full name wouldn’t matter so much. But to me, as pleasant and pretty as ‘Millie’ is, it’s quite little girl sounding. I wouldn’t want to be an adult Millie although I’m sure there are others who disagree with me!

So if I were you I’d want her to have a ‘proper’ name that I liked/you think she’ll like as I think it’s quite likely she’ll choose to use it when she’s a bit older.

If you really like Millie but don’t want to keep Millicent or use Amelia, how about Emilia or Camilla as others have suggested?

If you don't love Millicent and regret not using Amelia, then definitely you should change it. It's not a big deal and it doesn't matter what anyone else's opinion of Amelia/Millicent is. Since it won't change the fact that everyone calls her Millie day to day is even more reason to just change it.
