It’s spelled L-I-L-Y, like the flower.

The other way is an aberration that seems to be becoming more common nowadays which is why I probably judge the parents of the little “Lillys” i know as perhaps not being the best at spelling.

For the record, I know how snotty I sound Halloween Blush

DailyMailcanfuckthefuckoff · 23/10/2018 21:28

I agree with Paul 100%

Lily. When we had our DD the midwife asked us how we were spelling it... I thought she was nuts.

rainingcatsanddog · 23/10/2018 21:31

What Paul said. Lily is the correct and only spelling.

Mamimawr · 23/10/2018 21:33

It can be Lili if your Welsh. The flower is called 'Lili Wen Fach' in Welsh (little white lilly)

QuestionTime2018 · 23/10/2018 21:35

Lily

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 23/10/2018 21:37

I’d say that of course regional/foreign/indigenous spellings make sense; if I saw a kid enrolled to my class called Lili I’d presume they were Welsh or German.

BUT Lily (in English) is not spelled with a double L.

(Ps that’s not me lecturing you @mamimawr even if it reads like that Grin)

WhenIWasAYoungWarthog · 23/10/2018 21:39

Lily. Lilly would immediately indicate illiterate parents.

RedDwarves · 23/10/2018 21:49

Lily.

RedDwarves · 23/10/2018 21:50

I should add that Lilly makes sense if the name is shortened from Lillian, but I would still be inclined to spell it Lily.

E20mom · 23/10/2018 21:51

Lily

Jins · 23/10/2018 21:58

We’ve got a Lili, a Lily and a Lilian in the family aged from mid 50s to late 80s

We don’t believe in double Ls obviously

britiole · 23/10/2018 22:48

I know a Lily and a Lillie

RedStarBlueStar · 23/10/2018 22:50

If it’s a name by itself, then Lily like the flower.

Lilly only makes sense as an abbreviation for Lillian, as that has two Ls

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 23/10/2018 22:51

Lily.

Jins · 23/10/2018 23:10

Lilian doesn’t always have two Ls. It was many years before I saw the double L version but it was a deeply unpopular name when I was growing up so you didn’t see it very often at all

Annandale · 23/10/2018 23:16

Susannah/Suzanne/Susan all mean 'lily' if they've ever appealed to you.

LethalWhite · 24/10/2018 20:09

Lilly is only for the illiterate.

It's Lily, like the flower.

In the same way it's Daisy, not Daysy

starkid · 25/10/2018 13:41

Lily (although I know plenty of both).

Lilia is also gorgeous, I saw it from a past Strictly come Dancing pro :) or Liliya, a Russian spelling.

MonkeyToucher · 26/10/2018 12:06

Agreed that it’s correctly spelt Lily...

I know you weren’t looking for comments on the name itself but just want to make sur you are comfortable with how popular Lily is!? My niece is Lily and there are 4 (yes 4!) others in her year at school (reception). All spelt the same........
