Is Wilder or Ryder too unusual for a baby boy?

I love these names, but don't want to make life too difficult for my kid!!
Would they be too "out there" to use? I was thinking Wilder could be shortened to Will and Ryder shortened to Ry, so they do have nice abbreviations!

Not unusual at all. I've come across a few and they are nice names op.

SoupDragon · 23/10/2018 08:45

I think they're great names for a pet.

Think of the teen jokes with those names - Ride her? Seriously?

Wellonlyifihaveto · 23/10/2018 08:45

My friend let her 6yr old son name his new brother and he picked Ryder because of the character in paw patrol lol. I like the name though.

ogglet · 23/10/2018 08:45

Wilder is lovely! Really like it but Ryder just makes me think of Paw Patrol, Sorry Op! 🤦‍♀️

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 23/10/2018 08:46

Ryder is too Paw Patrol. Although lots of little boys will think he’s totally cool with a name like that...

britiole · 23/10/2018 08:46

I like Ryder!

busymamakins1 · 23/10/2018 08:47

Haha I've never seen Paw Patrol!! But this is good feedback!! And I'm not overly concerned about if sounding like "ride her" cos it's not gonna be a "her".... 🤣

Doesn't kate Hudson have a child called Ryder?

I think it's alright but Wilder is better. Like the playwright

SoupDragon · 23/10/2018 08:59

Yeah, because no one's going to make the "joke" about a boy going to ride her when they hit teen years and get interested in girls

Given your title said a baby boy, I knew it wasn't a her 🙄

SemperIdem · 23/10/2018 10:32

I would assume that you were a fan of Kate Hudson or Gene Wilder tbh.

BruegelTheElder · 23/10/2018 11:32

Neither are my style, I'm not really into surnames as forenames, but I don't see anything wrong with either of them. Wilder is better than Ryder IMO.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 23/10/2018 11:33

I like Ryder but not Wilder.

Shadow1234 · 23/10/2018 12:50

I really like both! (Never seen paw patrol either).

At least you havent gone down the 'Bear, 'Fox' 'King' or 'Prince' route.

FartnissEverbeans · 23/10/2018 13:00

I quite like Wilder. Ryder is fine but I have to admit that I think ‘ride ‘er’ as well... my dirty mind I suppose Blush

Faster · 23/10/2018 13:03

Ryder is the name of a trucking company near me so I don’t like it with a first name for a person.
Wilder doesn’t seem name like to me either.

daisypond · 23/10/2018 14:03

I quite like Wilder, but I don't like Ryder at all.

VenusInSpurs · 24/10/2018 06:39

Not for me.
Why is ‘Wilder’ a first name for a child? ‘Louder’ maybe?

noseoftralee · 24/10/2018 06:39

Paw Patrol theme roaring in my head now

finallychangedmyusername · 24/10/2018 10:21

Ready for action, Ryder sir! (Says that horrid little brown-noser Chase).

Disclaimer - I have 2 Paw Patrol obsessed DC. Grin

DC2018 · 24/10/2018 14:19

I like Ryder but Wilder is a bit strange for a first name imo

Loopytiles · 24/10/2018 14:20

Dislike both.

Sophronia · 24/10/2018 18:50

I like Wilder but not Ryder
