Looking for suggestions for astronomical names (linked with a mutual hobby between me and DH).

Currently we like but aren't sure of:

  • Luna
  • Nova
  • Atlas
  • Aries

Thoughts on these and any other suggestions? Thank youSmile

I really loved Atlas but my DH shot that down real fast!

I loved Luna and Astrid

TurquoiseDress · 21/10/2018 18:36

Celeste is beautiful

Valasca · 21/10/2018 18:39

Soraya is a common Arabic name and it means beautiful.

Biscuitsneeded · 21/10/2018 18:40

Juno and Hera are goddesses of the heavens...

springmachine · 21/10/2018 18:41

I love all these suggestions !

(Sorry no actual help)

Cosmoa · 21/10/2018 18:52

@Valasca it may be a common Arabic name now but as I said it is an ancient Persian name derived from Thurayya. I don't know where the meaning beauty comes into it. Some people think it means princess but that's just because there was a famous princess Soraya. My partner is of Persian lineage which is why we chose it.

I’ve met a family with girls called Cassiopeia, Lyra, and Juno, they are all lovely names

ZebraKid71 · 21/10/2018 22:05

Cassiopeia is the baby name I love but would never be brave enough to use! There are some brilliant names on this thread.

Love them all except luna which is just too common in my area.

Branleuse · 21/10/2018 22:05

Pluto

tinytemper66 · 21/10/2018 22:08

Choccywoccyhooha · 21/10/2018 22:25

We almost named our daughter Io and also considered Soleil.
We had Galileo on the lists for our sons.

SardineJam · 21/10/2018 22:29

Astrid

queenbeetofive · 23/10/2018 12:20

Star is pretty

FartnissEverbeans · 23/10/2018 13:06

Soraya is a beautiful name.

Hesper is one of my favourites, for the evening star.

AstridsMama · 23/10/2018 13:12

Astrid is not astronomical. It means "divine beauty" or "divine strength".
Astra would be astronomical.
Or Astraea (whom Virgo constellation is named for).

Cosmoa · 24/10/2018 13:57

I LOVE Astraea but I noticed it sounds like Ash tray so that put my off.. I was gutted 😭 not that my OH was gonna let me use it anyway.

I also wanted to use Soraya Cassiopeia but nope.. Not allowed haha

AstridsMama · 24/10/2018 17:55

Soraya is just gorgeous, isn't it?

spiderlight · 24/10/2018 18:07

My DH used to teach a student called Celestria.

Cosmoa · 24/10/2018 18:45

@AstridsMama it really is! I hope my DD enjoys it as much as I do ❤️
