Struggling to make a decision for DS2.

Any thoughts (positive/negative) on:

Iolo
Ianto
Iestyn
Guto
Gruff/Gruffyn/Gruffydd

Or any other similar names we might like?

Rhodri
Owain
Ifor
Lloyd
Hywel/Howell
Aled
Ianto

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 18/10/2018 20:27

Ianto is one of my favourite Welsh names
(Welsh speaking living in S Wales). I was going to suggest Taliesin, one of my other favourites, but see you already have one Grin I also like Aneurin a lot

Or
Gwyn
Bryn (or Brynmor, I have an uncle named this)
Gruffydd
Emrys

AornisHades · 18/10/2018 20:51

I'd suggest Geraint but I imagine there will be lots of Geraints around now.

Starlings27 · 18/10/2018 20:55

I love Gruffydd. And Dafydd. And Owain.

sproutsandparsnips · 18/10/2018 21:04

We've got a Gethin and it was a good choice for my English family! Also like
Rhodri
Caradog
Iolo

Heartofglass12345 · 18/10/2018 21:17

We have an Osian and Ellis (could spell it Elis to be welsher lol)

TroysMammy · 18/10/2018 21:49

Cellan
Bran
Eurig
Niclas

MamTDM · 19/10/2018 13:18

Ianto and Iestyn are my favourites from your list. I have a (not so) little Rhidian. Also like Rhodri, Evan, Morgan and Ioan.

MikeUniformMike · 19/10/2018 19:00

I think Aneurin goes well as a brother for Taliesin so I name your baby Tomos Aneurin Thomas.

Gwilym is nice. Gethin and Osian are a bit too popular IMO.
Geraint is problematic outside Wales - gets Gurr-aint, Jer-aint, Gur-ant etc how about Bradley Wiggins or Chris Hoy ...

AlliKaneErikson · 19/10/2018 19:31

I had to laugh at the various pronunciations during the Tour de France, mike. I also agree with the Aneurin suggestion.

MumGoneCrazy · 19/10/2018 20:00

Maxen or Morgan are my suggestions although from your list my fave would be Iestyn

welshweasel · 19/10/2018 20:07

Hmm I like Gwilym. Not having Aneurin (have worked for the NHS all my life)...Tomos it is Grin

Osian
Dafydd
Bryn
Dyfan
Elis
Gruffydd
Huw
Ifan
Llewelyn

Osian and Huw are my favourites. There was a cheeky Huw in my class in primary and a lovely Osian i knew in my teens.

MikeUniformMike · 20/10/2018 13:38

Macsen is the spelling for the welsh form of Max, not Maxen.
Gwilym could be shortened to Wil if you're not keen on Gwil.

MumGoneCrazy · 20/10/2018 14:32

Tell that to the list of Welsh boys names I found on internet Grin

MamaHechtick · 20/10/2018 14:39

Ianto is one of my absolute favourite names. I knew a baby boy called Ianto many years ago and he was an absolute delight of a baby in every single way.
Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to use it for my own DS and we don't have any Welsh connection. So for that I'd go 100% with Ianto.

EvieV28 · 20/10/2018 14:46

Absolutely love Ianto

MikeUniformMike · 20/10/2018 15:06

The Welsh alphabet doesn't have X, Q, Z or K. It sometimes includes J but didn't until fairly recently.
Name lists often have some bizarre or dubious entries.

welshweasel · 20/10/2018 15:16

DH and I have had a chat and the only two we both like are Iolo and Gruffydd, and Bryn has been put forward as a possible middle name.

I'm Welsh, I know, I just like alternative spellings Grin

MikeUniformMike · 21/10/2018 19:51

I think I'd favour Iolo of the two.

welshweasel · 21/10/2018 20:11

I’m thinking Iolo Gruffydd perhaps. We’ve got a couple of months (hopefully) to decide!
