Thoughts?

It's someone very close to me's name who passed away very suddenly last year. Me and DP like it but curious to know the mn verdict!

Love it!!!

zebrapig · 16/10/2018 17:54

DS has it as his middle name. He's 9monrhs.

Sunflower321 · 16/10/2018 17:55

Lawrence is great for a boy!

Laurence is the feminine version of Laurent, like Florence is to Florent. I'd avoid it for a boy in case he ever goes to France

samandpoppysmummy · 16/10/2018 18:06

Laurence is my son's middle name. We decided to use it after a close friend of my DH died in an accident just after I found out I was pregnant and thought it would be a nice thing to do if I had a boy. I think it's a great name :)

Stuckforthefourthtime · 16/10/2018 18:07

I'm with sunflower - stick with Lawrence or he can never live in France..
Love the name, btw! I wanted it for DC3 but DH was having none of it, sadly.

FawnDrench · 16/10/2018 18:18

As long as you don't mind it being shortened to Larry...

MichaelaMichaels · 16/10/2018 18:20

@FawnDrench our friend was literally never referred to as Larry!

Had no idea about Laurence being feminine. Thanks for the heads up :)

I think it's lovely, there was one in my son's class at primary school and it really suited him. Laurie for short.

TheVanguardSix · 16/10/2018 18:22

DH is Laurence. Laurie is what he goes by.

FawnDrench · 16/10/2018 18:25

Michaela - I love the name Laurence but have even known someone with this name called "Lol" as well as lots of Larrys!

Jessbow · 16/10/2018 18:31

Lawrence.

Can see be Lawrie

Sunflower321 · 16/10/2018 18:31

Laurie is a girls name in the US I think

RaininSummer · 16/10/2018 18:32

Love it.

Shadow1234 · 16/10/2018 20:15

Lovely name. I know of two - one is shortened to Lol, and the other is Laurie.

RavenWings · 16/10/2018 21:18

Think Laurence is far nicer looking than Lawrence, personally. Beats it by a mile.

Sunflower321 · 17/10/2018 09:54

Laurence looks feminine imo

Richlyfruited · 17/10/2018 19:18

My son is Laurie short for Laurence. Obviously I think it's a fab name Grin

But just to add to the comment above - my DS had no issues at all with spelling or gender in either the U.S. or France and we've been many times to both countries. I think there is an awareness that names are different all over the world e.g Dominique, Jean are mostly used as male names in France!

NannyR · 17/10/2018 19:21

I agree that Laurence looks feminine, but I prefer Laurie (as in Laurie Lee) to Lawrie as a shortening.

DramaAlpaca · 17/10/2018 19:21

Lawrence is traditionally the spelling of the surname & Laurence is the first name. Not that it really matters, it's a very nice name either way.

DC2018 · 17/10/2018 19:26

I know a Lawrence and he gets called Law which I think it's quite cool and ironic as he is studying to be a Lawyer lol x

Sunflower321 · 17/10/2018 21:40

Lawrence nickname Law or Lawrie is better for a boy.

Bouncingbelle · 18/10/2018 00:29

I've always loved this.

goes to berate self for not calling DS Lawrence/Lawrie

LeeMiller · 18/10/2018 06:30

Lovely name. I know 3 of very different ages, known as Lol, Low and Laurie (from oldest to youngest).

chocolatefoxes · 18/10/2018 23:25

Much prefer the spelling Laurence, Lawrence to me looks like a surname. I know a Laurence and his nickname is Loz which I think is a nice nickname

TheShrieksShallInheritTheDeath · 18/10/2018 23:53

Laurence may be feminine in France, but it isn't in the English speaking world. See Laurence Olivier, Laurence Fishburne, Laurence Fox...I things Lawrence is the surname.

I know a Laurie (Laurence) it's a lovely name.
