What are your thoughts on Owen?
Any associations or connotations that come to mind?

Honestly? I think it’s a bit wet.

midsomermurderess · 14/10/2018 11:23

I, on the other hand, like it.

RavenWings · 14/10/2018 11:32

Really like it. I think the Eoghan or Eoin variations are a lot nicer though.

Icklepup · 14/10/2018 11:44

I think it's nice

Cauliflowersqueeze · 14/10/2018 11:55

Ginger Owen off Grey’s Anatomy.

DramaAlpaca · 14/10/2018 11:56

I'm with RavenWings.

dancingbee · 14/10/2018 14:01

We have absolutely no Irish connections though so don't know if the variations would seem a little random?

Like it but prefer Owain

finallychangedmyusername · 14/10/2018 16:18

Love it

Topseyt · 14/10/2018 16:26

I like it. Not wet at all. I've always thought of it as more Welsh than Irish, although I think both languages have versions of it.

I think that the Irish spelling might be Eoin? I could be wrong though. Irish language spelling isn't my forte (nor is Welsh).

I like it spelled Owen or Owain, personally. I'm not sure how the Welsh spell it. Maybe someone can tell us.

PopadomPointer · 14/10/2018 16:31

Love it
Love Owain even more Grin

llangennith · 14/10/2018 17:14

Pretty common in Wales.

Dumbledoresgirl · 14/10/2018 17:17

My boss is called Owen. He is nice enough, but not exactly manly. I would say though that my expectation otherwise would be that Owen would be a manly man.

Cottonia · 14/10/2018 21:35

I think it’s a great name

RiverTam · 14/10/2018 21:36

I’m afraid that Little Owen Jones has killed that name for me.

dancingbee · 14/10/2018 21:39

Hmmm hadn't actually heard of Owain before now. Again, no Welsh connections though...
Hadn't thought of it as being 'wet' before 🤔

Really like it, considered it for DS.

Personally I'd stick with Owen as a spelling though, as you mention no Irish connections I think it would just over complicate things

Clockwork95 · 14/10/2018 21:43

I like it. If you don't have welsh or irish connections I'd just stick with Owen.

llangennith · 14/10/2018 22:25

Owain may be the Welsh language spelling but mostly it's spelt Owen in Wales.

Redshoeblueshoe · 14/10/2018 22:27

I'm with RiverTam Owen Jones Nooooooo

desperateforsleep2 · 14/10/2018 22:29

Love Owen, where we live there are lots of Eoins/Eoghans, so poor child would probably spend their whole life correcting people re: spelling!

DC18 · 14/10/2018 22:46

I like Owen. I think of Owen from greys anatomy who is a war vet and great trauma surgeon so not a bad namesake.

LividAtDolphins · 15/10/2018 12:25

I love it.

MrsMarigold · 15/10/2018 12:31

Owen Jones - dreadful man. Sorry.

Pemba · 15/10/2018 12:41

I do quite like it. Very Welsh. It was my grandfather's name (born 1910) yet I don't think of it as dated.
