Will everyone think of Mr Bean...

We've really struggled with names, especially for boys!
My partner suggested Rowan, which I now absolutely love.
The only issue is the surname which is similar to Atkinson (but not Atkins). Will everyone just think of Mr Bean every time they hear his name???

It reminds me of Rowan Glen yogurt's. But it's a nice name and I doubt the child's generation will even know Mr Beans real name!

TheQueef · 09/10/2018 17:46

I think RA is more known for Blackadder.

Scrumptiousbears · 09/10/2018 17:46

I have a friend called Rowan and I've never thought of Mr Bean.

Aprilislonggone · 09/10/2018 17:46

I have a Roan and the reference has never been made tbh.

Cosmoa · 09/10/2018 17:52

If your name is similar to Atkinson I would think of Rowan Atkinson.

I'm surprised the at the pp saying he's more associated with Black Adder than Mr. Bean though Hmm

I've watched Mr. Bean all over the world because he can be understood in any language. It's more universally watched and therefore more popular than Black Adder. Not to mention more recent and a few films have been made.

It's probably a generation thing!

GinaCarbonara · 09/10/2018 17:58

I think it depends how similar your surname to Atkinson is. Does it have the same sound?

HJL2506 · 09/10/2018 18:02

I'd think of Mr Bean upon hearing the name Rowan with it without the surname being similar to Atkinson.

Nothing wrong with that though as he is a very intelligent man!

HJL2506 · 09/10/2018 18:02

^with or without

Mayhemmumma · 09/10/2018 18:03

I know a lovely Rowan and it's never been mentioned as far as I know

OutPinked · 09/10/2018 18:03

Wouldn’t cross my mind tbh and I’m a big Blackadder/Mr Bean fan.

LeeMiller · 09/10/2018 18:11

It's hard to say without knowing the surname - Rowan Anderson or Rowan Aitchison, I'd probably notice but it's not a bad association - he's Blackadder to me, more than Mr Bean.

bridgetreilly · 09/10/2018 18:17

You are definitely overthinking this, OP.

Skylucy · 09/10/2018 18:20

I don't think I'd ever think of Mr Bean - Rowan Atkinson is definitely more Blackadder for me! I also LOVE the name Rowan - have you considered slightly different spellings though, if you're worried about the association? Rohan (English/Irish pronunciation, rather than Sanskrit), would sound the same but look different. Also, I think it's exclusively a boy's name, whereas Rowan is used for girls too.

IHeartKingThistle · 09/10/2018 18:24

Rowan Adkin? Too close.
Rowan Aitchison? Mmm, better but I think people will still double-take.
Rowan Anderson? I think that's different enough to be fine.

It's a lovely name OP.

PotteringAlong · 09/10/2018 18:26

It depends on your surname. But definitely blackadder not mr bean!

Clacton · 09/10/2018 19:32

Ha ha it was more the worry of a teacher accidentally saying Rowan Atkinson instead of his name, rather than the worry of people thinking he would be mr bean.

Thanks for your reassurance, I don't know any other Rowans. Definitely still love it!

OP posts:
amilosingitor · 09/10/2018 19:33

I think of the wicker man when I hear rowan

Sophronia · 09/10/2018 23:52

How about Roman or Ruan instead?

stellabird · 09/10/2018 23:54

I love Rowan. And by the time he grows up, nobody will connect his name with Mr Bean or Blackadder.

CalonGlas · 10/10/2018 00:35

It's a lovely name - I know two Rowans, a youngish boy and an adult woman, and both really suit it.

KateTTC123 · 10/10/2018 07:47

In Scotland its a resonably common name (in that it's used regularly, not that it's not nice!) But usually for girls. I think it's lovely and would never have made the reference.

WhatAPandemonium · 10/10/2018 09:20

I really don't think you have to worry! It's really nice and I don't think people will immediately link to Nr Bean when hearing the name!

daisypond · 10/10/2018 18:23

I would think Mr Bean, but maybe that's my age. I seriously considered Rowan as a name for one of my DDs, and the Mr Bean thing put me off.

LemonysSnicket · 10/10/2018 18:39

I would think of the tree

longnight · 10/10/2018 18:42

I have a Rowan he's now 3 and no one has linked him to Mr Bean. The only comments we have is how it's not a name you hear much of and that it's lovely.
