Hi all,

What do you think of Amy (thanks to those that suggested this name to me)?
How does it sound?

I'd like Esther as second name but not with a hyphen, just as stand alone second name

Thanks!

Love Amy but Esther really really doesn't flow as a middle name

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 09/10/2018 09:33

Very pretty, but. I agree with pp. I wouldn't pair it with Esther

finallychangedmyusername · 09/10/2018 09:59

Are you the poster that wanted Emma Esther? If so I think that Amy Esther flows better than Emma Esther although it's not brilliant sadly. Not sure how much that matters. Love the name Amy though.
Could you add a second middle?
Amy Madeleine Esther
Amy Coral Esther
Amy Kathleen Esther
Amy Rosabel Esther

This was much harder than I thought it was going to be. Anything ending in s or ee just blurs into Esther.

Merrz · 09/10/2018 10:21

I love Amy, we have an Amy in Dh's family or would definitely be my top girls name. I also agree it doesn't go very well with Esther though

AtticaRose · 09/10/2018 10:46

I think it's more important that it sounds good with your last name. People rarely read out their whole name aloud - at their wedding perhaps!

Amy Esther is completely fine, in any case. I quite like it. I like that the slightly girly first name is paired with a more serious middle name.

Ellynewmum · 09/10/2018 13:39

thanks a million for all the suggestions and comments!!

Yep I've posted also about Emma Esther
I'm trying to keep the Esther in but not easy..

I don't dislike it but I see how it doesn't flow.

What do you think of Amy Laura?

Thanks

@Atticarose thank you
I haven't taken Esther off the table yet

Surname starts with P. and seems to flow well

Would you not have Esther as a first name?
Esther Amy flows better I think.

I like Esther and it’s not overly popular which is a good thing IMHO.

HairyToity · 09/10/2018 13:50

Amy Rose
Amy Primrose
Amy Violet
Amy Frances

Pemba · 09/10/2018 13:50

Amy Esther would be fine, so would Amy Laura. But I'd agree with pps that Emma Esther doesn't flow well.

HairyToity · 09/10/2018 13:51

Amy Laura is lovely

finallychangedmyusername · 09/10/2018 14:30

I like Amy Laura

sparkles212 · 09/10/2018 16:20

Love the name Amy, it's one of two names we're considering for our dd who is due in 2 weeks. It's trailing off the popularity lists too which suits me down to the ground as I don't want her to be one of 5 with the same name in her class and yet its still a nice normal name.

Ellynewmum · 11/10/2018 15:52

@sparkles212: could you share what is the other name you are looking at? (if you feel appropriate to do so)

@dontbuymesocks: what do you think of the "old lady" feeling that seems to be attached to the name?

OP posts:
Dontbuymesocks · 11/10/2018 16:07

I don’t think of Esther as being old fashioned in the old lady/granny sense. Those names, to me at least, are Ivy, Elsie, Mabel etc. I think of Esther as being a more classic, biblical name. I really like it, though obviously my opinion doesn’t count. What kind of names do you like in general? Granny names, biblical, English Rose, hipster etc.?
You mentioned Amy and Laura. There are a lot of Amys about, and it’s been popular for a long time. Some people are put off by popularity of names, does this bother you? Of the two, I prefer Laura as I think it’s less common than Amy.

Ellynewmum · 11/10/2018 16:44

thanks for coming back :)

A bit of popularity doesn't bother me - but I'd prefer not to pick a top of the chart name to avoid having other 2-3 girls in the class with the same.

I like names with a meaning and a positive message for a girl
ie. Esther speaks of courage and resolution
Amy means loved, I see it as a message of love

I'm looking for something classical, but that doesn't sound dated or old

If you've any suggestions please fire away

Thanks!!

If you like Amy and Laura, what about
Alexandra
Lucy
Zoe
Holly
Zara
Abigail (Abbie?)
Lauren

I adopted my DC and didn’t choose their name, so I’m not sure I’m that good at this!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 11/10/2018 18:43

Amy Josephine.

daisypond · 11/10/2018 18:47

I much prefer Esther to Amy, which is a name I find very bland. Esther is strong name and it doesn't end in an ee sound. Esther Amy would be fine.

Theweasleytwins · 11/10/2018 19:01

I know sisters called amy and laura😊

MikeUniformMike · 11/10/2018 20:11

Esther Amy and call her Esther. Mn as known as name can be a PITA.

Ellynewmum · 11/10/2018 20:20

Thanks @dontbuymesocks for the suggestions!
I really like Alexandra but it's the name of her cousin..

Fair play to you for adopting!!
I always wanted to meet someone that adopted their children
Much respect to you!

OP posts:
Ellynewmum · 11/10/2018 20:25

@MikeUniformMike - what do you mean by PITA?

@Daisypond - I like Esther a lot too, but got a bit put off by the general feeling of old/very vintage that it has in the UK.
Although we are a multicultural family, she'll be born and raised here..

Also, when you see people lists or names suggestions, it hardly gets mentioned..

I know it's not a popularity context but I'm a bit wary of how the name is perceived here by the general public..
