Name for next baby

I have a beautiful 5 week old son called Stanley.

Already I'm thinking ahead to what to call my next baby! Wondering if you guys could help.

My criteria for names are;

'Old' names, popular in early 20th century.
Names that are easy to say and spell.
Names that are not too popular (in top 20).
Cannot start with R or have a strong R or W sound as it'll clash with my surname.

Looking for boys and girls suggestions.
Thanks!

We must be alike! I have ana knots 2 year old called Stanley. Due DS2 in 2 weeks. Cannot have an "R" name due to our surname. We are calling him either Sidney or Ellis, we are waiting to see wha the looks like when he is here!

Don't know what happened there! That was supposed to say I have an almost 2 year old^

Petal flowers - thanks for your suggestions. Love those lists. Especially love Edith and Kathleen for girls and Leonard and Percival for boys.

HJL2506 think Ellis and Sidney are fab names. I love Ellis. Sidney is a lovely name, not useable for me because I'm living in Australia and it's too close to Sydney.

Thank you! Yes perhaps Sidney is a bit close to home for you!

Congrats on baby Stanley! Lovely name! 🙂

Julia

Felicity These are all kind of middle/upper class names from the first half of the 20th century. They just seem nicer, maybe because they weren't so ubiquitous. I can't get excited about Eileen or Irene for example. Also:

Joy (but not Joyce)
Shirley (I know, but listen to the sound of it, it's pretty)
Anne (although it is considered a bit plain now, but it's classic and you could lengthen it into Annie for example)

I would also have said Rosalind, Dorothy, Mary and Audrey, but obviously too many 'r's.

For boys I can only think of
Peter (lovely), and
John (would now be refreshing!)

Do you really like Percival? Your choice of course, but it makes me think of (1) pigs (in the UK there is a brand of kids' sweets called Percy Pig) (2) little boys in velvet suits with lacey collars like Little Lord Fauntleroy. In other words, a bit wussy!
