Finally, DH & I have found a name we both really like... just want to get an idea of what people's general thoughts are of this name before we set it in stone.

Thank you Smile

It's pretty and I like it.

So refreshing compared to all the attention seeking made up names these days.

Itchytights · 07/10/2018 07:06

I taught a few Gina's.

Georgia is definitely better.

Thanks everyone. Like a few of you, we really love Georgie too. We thought about maybe going for that but choosing Georgia would give us/her the option of both Smile so pleased with the positive feedback!

Love it! It’s on our list of names ❤️

mrsjackrussell · 07/10/2018 07:55

Iv a 16 Yr old Georgia so love it. I don't think it's a common name now though.

Sallygoroundthemoon · 07/10/2018 07:56

Very pretty.

IAcceptCookies · 07/10/2018 08:16

I have my own little(ish) Georgia but she's a Georgie mostly. Lovely name.

IdaBWells · 08/10/2018 19:08

Considerherwaysandothers the state of Georgia was named after King George. Of course the country of Georgia is a different matter but may well have a different root meaning.

Most places called Georgia are actually named after a person rather than the other way round. When the Hanoverians became Kings in England the name George and all female versions of it became very popular. There seems to be something about how it sounds but I can never get tired of the “George” names they are just classics!

Srilli · 08/10/2018 19:10

Love it

daisypond · 08/10/2018 19:25

I don't like it. I only know Georgias who are about 19 or 20, so it would seem very dated to give it to a baby now. I see it as quite downmarket now, I'm afraid.

RavenWings · 08/10/2018 19:27

Love it. Also love Georgiana, but not Georgina for some reason.

My thoughts exactly. And Georgie as a standalone name isn't good - as a nn it's nice.

Waterstonian · 08/10/2018 19:59

Like previous pp’s, I love Georgia, Georgie (and Georgiana, though I would never use it!) but hate Georgina.

Great choice!

Waterstonian · 08/10/2018 20:01

And I disagree that it’s a ‘place name’ - the name of the place is derived from the name (Georgia state named after King George, Georgia country maybe named after St George), so it was a name first!!

(Unlike Brooklyn, India etc.)

IdblowJonSnow · 08/10/2018 20:02

I really like it, it's a little bit 90s but most names are cyclical so that doesn't matter really!

anitagreen · 08/10/2018 20:03

I hate it I actually ended up shortening it to Gia. I was called Georgina constantly it's just a common name now. So many kids are called it reminds me of the Elsie, lily, ruby and grace brigade

ballseditupforever · 08/10/2018 20:08

Lovely.

DramaAlpaca · 08/10/2018 23:37

I much prefer Georgina, it just sounds so much more classy to me.

Georgia is very popular round here & I've heard 'Geeoorrrja!' screeched across a playground so many times it's put me off completely.

I do love Georgie though, it's adorable.

SneakySneaky · 09/10/2018 00:46

It’s a nice name but around these parts it would turn into Joolja when spoken out loud!

OutPinked · 09/10/2018 18:06

I’ve never met a nice Georgia or Georgina. They’ve always been either bullies or snobs.

Bessieham · 09/10/2018 18:22

Well, every Georgia/Georgie/Georgina I have met has been a lovely, intelligent child, and they’ve all grown up to be articulate, successful young women.

KateTTC123 · 10/10/2018 07:49

My mum always speaks of this being the name she wishes she'd called me! She hadnt heard of it until after I was born. It's a lovely name.

RuthW · 10/10/2018 19:26

When my dd was 6 she asked me why her name wasn't Georgia as she had 7 friends with the name. She's 21 now and hardly heard it since.

IdaBWells · 11/10/2018 00:03

I think my Georgina is lovely! She is popular at school, very active and happy. She also has a Georgia in her year who also is very popular so I wouldn’t take any notice of prejudice against a name you like.

Fishandthechips · 12/10/2018 13:57

Its my name. I cant say im particularly fond of it but ive never come across anyone being negative about it (although the family friend who sings 'midnight train to Georgia' everytime I see him can sod off).
I weirdly love both Georgina and Georgiana though! I wish id been given one of those instead.

Belindabauer · 13/10/2018 13:17

I don't like it, but I'm probably in a minority in that I don't like George either.
