Opinions on Leo

I’ve always loved the name Leo for a boy and thought it was unusual. But of course now that we’re expecting our own little boy I’ve been told it’s very popular and in the top 10. Me and my DH both have very common names, one of several in our school year etc. So we had aimed to pick less popular names for our children. However, I don’t know a single Leo at the minute and have yet to hear of any little baby Leo’s in our area. ( we live in Scotland).

So I suppose I’m asking, is Leo really that popular and would it put you off? Do you know many Leo’s and how do you view the name? Any opinions on Leo very welcome, even negative ones as we do have another few names which we are considering.

I have a 5 year old Leo so obviously love the name. There is one other in his school (year 6). I’m also a teacher of 16 years and have only taught one Leo in all that time.

My 6yr old nephew is a Leo and also a friend had a 2 ur old Leo too.

We absolutely love the name Leo and it's definitely our number one choice if bubba is a boy! I'm a primary school teacher and have never taught a Leo in the eight years I've been teaching.
Our baby was conceived in South Africa so also think it's quite fitting!xx

My 16 month old is called Leo because I didn't know any Leo's so thought it wasn't that popular. There seems to be quite a few now

Thanks for all the replies. It seems it’s not as popular as the name lists would suggest. The popularity of certain names must be very dependent on locality. I think it’s going to remain Number 1 on the list anyway. Strangely I don’t like Leon at all but I’m going to keep checking this board for inspiration!
