Quinn - boy or girl?

I've took a love for the name Quinn. It's a unisex name anyway and sometimes I see it in the girls suggestions and sometimes in the boys suggestions on the MN thread.

But is it more of a boys name or a girls name to you? I seem to love it for both and can't decide which one I'd prefer it for!!!

Will Finn also become a girls name Hmm?

Eeevvvveee · 05/10/2018 08:58

Girl x

Eeevvvveee · 05/10/2018 08:59

Used to love it but read that Quinny is Victorian slang for vagina so that put me off 😂

GummyGoddess · 05/10/2018 09:03

Boy. It's only picking up popularity as a girls name here as America uses it for girls and has some television show with a woman called Quinn in it (not anti American, just pointing out a reason for the increase).

chipsandpeas · 05/10/2018 09:03

The Quinn I know is a boy

Belmo · 05/10/2018 10:30

I know one of each. Personally prefer for a boy but I wouldn’t assume either way.

RedDwarves · 05/10/2018 10:53

Girl, absolutely.

One Tree Hill, Daria, Glee... all had female Quinns.

MrsBlondie · 05/10/2018 10:54

I know one of each. Don't like it either way!

ratherbeshowjumping · 05/10/2018 11:40

Female on Glee, male on Mad Dogs, a friend in RL surname. I personally prefer for a boy

Sunflower321 · 05/10/2018 12:16

Boy

Cbeebiesrehab · 05/10/2018 13:59

Girl

Sunflower321 · 05/10/2018 14:04

To me it sounds very manly like Flynn or Finn.

Quintana sounds feminine

jq28 · 05/10/2018 14:05

I adore this for a boy or a girl but unfortunately it's my surname now I'm
Married so can't call our kid Quinn Quinn 😂😂

Smellybluecheese · 05/10/2018 14:05

I know 2 boy Quinns. Sounds much more masculine to me.

Charlieiscool · 05/10/2018 14:08

Awful. Better than Quim though.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 05/10/2018 14:44

In know one, a little girl.

Roomba · 05/10/2018 14:48

It instantly makes me think of Peter Quinn in Homeland, so it has a 'boy' association for me.

Westwing1 · 05/10/2018 14:48

I met one, young Aussie surf instructor - male. Had no idea it could be a girls name.

Sunflower321 · 05/10/2018 14:50

I had no idea about it being used as a girls name. Must be American. I've also heard Elliot being used as a girls name!

ButterflyOfFreedom · 05/10/2018 14:52

If presume boy

basquiat · 05/10/2018 16:18

When it's used for men in TV shows, it's usually their surname, isn't it? Like Peter Quinn in Homeland, they call him Quinn because of the whole military thing of using surnames.

So to me it just sounds like a surname, tbh.

But according to names.darkgreener.com/#quinn, it is pretty unisex, although used a little bit more for boys in England and Wales than girls.

Sunflower321 · 05/10/2018 16:21

In addition to Quinn itself there are lots of Quentins etc called Quinn as short form, so the overall number will be even higher

NameWizard · 05/10/2018 16:51

It's a beautiful unisex name with a youthful vibe in my opinion Star. Btw if you're interested in looking at some new unique names you can drop me a direct message and I'll be happy to help.

Bluewidow · 05/10/2018 16:55

I have a Quentin so would verge more towards it as a boys name. However my colleague had a girl Quinn. I also had another colleague who was a Quintin and his name was shortned to quin.

CAAKE · 05/10/2018 17:01

I automatically assume boy but think it's a great girl name. Quirky and strong 💪
