What are your opinions on the name Roxie/Roxy (and which way would you spell it?)
I've heard that it's a 'stripper name' at least 7 times already, but I actually quite like the name! Confused would you make this association?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Porn star or stripper or now Roxanne pallet Sad

Wolfiefan · 04/10/2018 20:35

Put on your red light.
Or dog’s name.
Chicago.

3ChangingForNow · 04/10/2018 20:44

I've known three Roxy's it doesn't have any stripper association with them. I'd personally do Roxanne nn Roxy.

CookiesandQueen · 04/10/2018 20:48

Sorry to say I also think of strippers. I've also known some dogs called Roxy which puts me off.

AtticaRose · 04/10/2018 21:57

Roxane/Roxana makes me think of the wife of Alexander the Great, very classical and regal. Next association, Roxy Hart. Then Roxanne the song.

I think I'd go Roxana NN Roxie.

greendale17 · 04/10/2018 21:59

It is such a harsh name. I think prostitute

Lindy2 · 04/10/2018 22:01

Roxie is our cat's name and it suits her.
For a human though it does conjour up that stripper image.

KateTTC123 · 06/10/2018 09:14

My dog was called Roxy but I chose that because I like human names for dogs do I say go for it; it's a lovely name!

RLOU30 · 06/10/2018 09:16

I’m sorry I also thought stripper name before I opened the thread

RatRolyPoly · 06/10/2018 09:18

I like Roxy. I think surfer girl (like the clothing brand - is that still around??) rather than stripper.

Sometimesitsmyownfault · 06/10/2018 10:33

Name of a local female jack Russell. I don't know any human Roxys.

I like Roxana more than Roxanne.

ImNotonLinkedInNo · 06/10/2018 10:37

Awful. This is very snobby but when I was about 15 a friend's older sister had a baby and called it Roxy. She was only a teen herself. This was a long time ago. I remember my mum saying ''it's a shame that myfriend'smother didn't intervene to have a chat with her about names''. So roxy goes down in my memory as the first name I was ever aware of that people judged. By my own mother!! But still. I'd never heard her comment on any other name.

WHat about rixy short for Beatrix?

sadkoala · 06/10/2018 10:41

I know a Roxana (not sure if spelled with an x or not) I like it. Most of her closer friends/relatives do just call her Roxy though - I do think Roxy is more of a nickname than a full name tbh.

(Like Alex for Alexander) .

PrincessTwilightStoleMyToddler · 06/10/2018 10:46

Roxy Hart, Chicago. Every time.

Also - side issue but if turns out my phone has a big issue with it as a name. It took me 5 goes to get that to say Roxy at the start of this post, it wants to autocorrect to “epoxy”, “poxy” or “foxy” (twice).

MrsCar · 06/10/2018 10:49

That Eastenders character was the first thing that came to my mind.

I don't like it at all, so harsh sounding.

Waterstonian · 06/10/2018 10:49

Roxy from Eastenders. Who drowned in a swimming pool after taking heroin...

rainbowstardrops · 06/10/2018 10:56

There was a Roxy in my DS's class years back at nursery. She was often heard to be called Foxy Roxy. Obviously children didn't mean it in a negative/sexy way but adults might be Hmm
I don't like it personally. Sorry
