Bear Not a proper name for a person;more of a nickname. #6
Ivan Strong name. Makes me think of geared men in flannels and boots. #2
Kit A nickname for Christopher. Cute. #4
Koa Hmmm. Really unusual to the point of being an oddity #5
Roscoe It's unique, and nothing wrong with it #3
Sage Prefer this for a girl #7
Stefan Best name of the boys #1

Girls: I'll just strike the ones I don't like and rank the ones I do.
Afra 🚫
Ezri#4
Gypsy 🚫
Hester#2
Juniper#1
Lumi #3
Raven#5
Saskia 🚫

Kit - Coleen Rooney’s son
Bear - Cheryl Coles son
Koa - Kian from West life’s son

I like Raven from your girls list but would she not need dark hair to carry it off

Shampooeeee · 07/10/2018 05:22

I like Kit from the boys’ list.
Hester, Juniper and Saskia from the girls’.

ThursdaysChildHasFarToGo · 07/10/2018 05:47

Boys:
Bear ✖️Really don't understand this as a name... I mean it's not a name is it? It's an animal. Cute for a nickname. Cheryl Cole/Tweedy/Fanadez? Would put me off regardless.
Ivan ✖️ it's a fine name but not to my taste
Kit ✔️ personally would use Christopher on the BC but don't mind this
Koa ✖️
Roscoe ✖️A surname at best IMO
Sage ✖️
Stefan ✔️ I know a 10 year old Stefan, lovely little boy so I only have good connotations with this name.

Girls:
Afra✖️
Ezri ✖️
Gypsy✖️a dogs name at best, I'm not sure naming a child after a culture/ ethnicity is particularly PC either. Could 'Gypsy' ever be prime minister?
Hester ✖️Don't personally love it but nothing wrong with it as a name.
Juniper ✖️
Lumi✔️ I know a Lumi, but it's a shortening of her Eastern European full name.
Raven ✖️
Saskia✔️ this is the only name from the girls list I like.

Sorry OP, have tried to give feedback rather than just slating as that's not particularly useful for anyone... suffice to say we have quite different naming styles. The name I'll likely choose for dc (due in 4 weeks) was universally panned on one thread on these boards and much appreciated on another 🤷‍♀️ you just have to go with your instinct and try not to give them a name that's going to hold them back in any way.

I like Ivan a lot. That’s about it - Hester is particularly awful for a girl imo and Gypsy is a strange choice.

Ohluckyme · 07/10/2018 18:13

Gypsy 😂

purple8pig · 07/10/2018 19:37

I like sage for a girl?

TatianaLarina · 07/10/2018 20:34

Saskia is the only one I like.

cptartapp · 07/10/2018 20:37

Love Saskia. The others are dreadful.

Polkasq · 07/10/2018 20:38

I like Stefan, Juniper and Raven.

anatol · 07/10/2018 20:41

Boys:
Bear- I like this but not everyone will
Ivan- not keen on this
Kit- Like this but would give Christopher as full name and shorten
Koa- Not unless you are Hawaiin
Roscoe- Awful
Sage- A rabbit's name
Stefan- OK but a bit pretentious

Girls:
Afra- don't like
Ezri- on the fence about this
Gypsy- no
Hester- horrible sounding
Juniper- Horse's name
Lumi- don't like
Raven- Could be cool if your child is likely to have jet black hair but otherwise no
Saskia- only girls name here that I like and it's a lovely one!

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 07/10/2018 20:43

All dreadful except Saskia (lovely, really lovely), Hester (nice) and Stefan (OK), and, perhaps, Juniper, Lumi (is it Finnish? Don't think it will work in the UK, though - cf. 'loony' association). Afra would be nice if it was Aphra (like Behn), but would probably get a lot of misspelling.

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 07/10/2018 20:44

To the PP who said she knew a shortened Lumi - is the full name Luminita? Love that, very pretty.

AutoFillUsername · 07/10/2018 20:47

Boys:
Bear- The name a wanna be celeb would call their child.
Kit- I used to like this but the Wayne Rooney association ruins it
Koa- No idea how to say this
Roscoe- Will be known as Ross which is dull
Sage- A girl’s name
Stefan- OK
Ivan - lovely

Girls:
Afra- love it is spelt Aphra. Aphra Behn is a heroine of mine
Ezri- sounds made up but I like Ezra for a boy
Gypsy- no
Hester- I like it and love Hester in the Scarlet Letter
Juniper- I know a lovely Juniper known as Juna so I like this
Lumi- sounds like a vegan yoga cafe name
Raven- quite like for a black haired girl
Saskia- oK

jadeywadeyyox · 08/10/2018 13:05

My cat is called Bear...

Kokeshi123 · 08/10/2018 13:12

Boys: Stefan and Ivan are fine. The rest are pretty awful.

Girls: Saskia and Hester are fine, and Aphra is OK as long as it is spelt correctly. The rest are either made-up or potentially offensive (many Romanies are OK with the word "gypsy" but a lot of people are uncomfortable with the word--I don't recommend doing this to your child).

CakeRattleandRoll · 08/10/2018 13:34

Boys:
Bear - we use it as a nn for DS (Edward), but definitely not on birth certificate
Ivan - I'd assume Russian background
Kit - only as nn for Christopher / Kester
Koa - makes me think of a polynesian bird for some reason
Roscoe - OK, prefer Ross
Sage - girl's name
Stefan - nice, would assume some sort of European heritage

Girls:
Afra - makes me think of aphrodisiac!
Ezri - misspelling of Ezra
Gypsy - no
Hester - like, esp with nn Hettie
Juniper - like a lot
Lumi - loony
Raven - unsure on this
Saskia - like
