Love it. Short, classic. Only for a male though. Use the unrelated Gaia for a female.

daisypond · 04/10/2018 20:47

Like it lots.

notsureaboutthisname · 04/10/2018 20:53

Apple - it definitely wouldn't be pronunced that way! In fact, I've never heard of that pronunciation... What am I missing here?

Thanks for all your replies so far everyone Smile.

The "Guy pronounced as Goo-ey" tale is a no doubt apocryphal story that I remember my grandmother telling me in the '80s about a baby that was so named because the parents read the name in a book and didn't know how it was pronounced, and they pronounced it Goo-ey.

bourbonbiccy · 04/10/2018 21:26

Sorry it's a nay from me SadSadSad

RoseMartha · 04/10/2018 21:26

I like it

LauderSyme · 04/10/2018 21:31

I like it, it was on my list for ds. As long as your surname isn't Roper! I think it would go best with a surname of more than one syllable though.

MadMaryBoddington · 04/10/2018 23:16

Great name.

MintMunchie · 05/10/2018 22:48

It's awful. I can't imagine calling a lovely baby Guy, and it's rather like calling him 'boy' or 'man'. It probably works better in France though.

ReginaPhalange89 · 07/10/2018 05:58

Not keen !

notsureaboutthisname · 08/10/2018 19:41

Thanks everyone for your contributions and to daisy for the Goo-ey explanation Smile.

I know one in his thirties. Suits him and is distinctive without being odd.
It's not a name I would choose but perfectly nice.

TatianaLarina · 09/10/2018 14:37

Guy is cool.

BluthsFrozenBananas · 09/10/2018 14:43

It was popular when I was young (in my area anyway) so in my head it goes with other of their time boys names like Darren, Colin, Kevin and Trevor. Which makes it a nay for me.

Charley50 · 09/10/2018 14:53

Nay from me, especially for a baby! Although I suppose lol grown-up sounding named people were babies once.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 09/10/2018 15:01

I love it, it conjures an image to me of a handsome, chiselled jaw, dr type.

DaftCat · 09/10/2018 15:04

I just think of Guy Fieri. I wouldn’t call a baby Guy.

TatianaLarina · 09/10/2018 15:56

Never heard of him.

OP is not naming a baby she’s naming a man.

If more people realised this there would be fewer Bear, Fox, Billy, Alfies..

DaftCat · 09/10/2018 16:01

But he’s a baby first. Before he’s a man. And after he’s a baby he’ll be a toddler, and a child, and a teenager. And personally I don’t really like the name Guy for any of those.
And yes, Fox, Bear, Alfie et al are ridiculous too. Possibly even more than Guy.
Interestingly, I wasn’t the only one to say I wouldn’t call a baby Guy, yet I was the only one you leapt on.
And I suggest you look up Guy Fieri, he’s magnificent.

BluthsFrozenBananas · 09/10/2018 16:06

Guy Fieri, who wouldn’t want to name their baby after him Grin ?

Guy - yay or nay?
TatianaLarina · 09/10/2018 16:08

I wasn’t particularly referring to you just the sentiment.

If he lives to 85 he will be a baby/toddler for 0.04% of his life, and a man for 79% of his life.

I’ve seen people say they can’t Alexander or Sebastian etc on a baby, but that’s what nns are for.
