Would you think these sibling names are weirdly similar?

Our DS is called Heath. DD is due shortly and the only name we've found that we both really like is Thea.

I think they're too similar, given that Thea is basically an anagram of Heath, minus one letter.

DH thinks that that, whilst the letters are obviously similar, they sound completely different, so it's fine.

Thoughts? Would you find a brother and sister with these names a bit odd, or are they different enough in sound (as most people hear names rather than see them written down) that you wouldn't notice?

Wouldn't even cross my mind!

Marmite27 · 02/10/2018 22:18

Not at all!

Shadow1234 · 02/10/2018 22:21

Sound ok to me.

Changedmynametoolikeyou · 02/10/2018 22:22

I wouldn’t notice.

DramaAlpaca · 02/10/2018 22:23

Too similar for me, I immediately saw the near anagram.

It's possible I'm biased the wrong way though, because I don't like Thea much.

But if you both love it you should go for it. It's hard enough to find names you both agree on.

NoSquirrels · 02/10/2018 22:24

I'd think it an interesting coincidence if I saw it written down, perhaps, but that's it. On first hearing your DC's names, I would think nothing of it (except for really liking both so congratulating you on your good taste!)

somersetblue · 02/10/2018 22:28

No doesn’t sound similar out loud. I liked Thea but now I’ve realised there are loads of little Thea’s at the moment? (Especially compared to Heath if you’re looking for a name not used a lot?)

Sohardtochooseausername · 02/10/2018 22:31

Its hard to say both those names together, which you would do with siblings. Easier if she was called Jane or actually Sian would be nice..!

steppemum · 02/10/2018 22:32

They sound so different it wouldn't occur to me. Until I saw it written down, but it wouldn't matter.

Tobermory · 02/10/2018 22:34

I agree with pp, it’s actually really hard to say those names one and after the other.

The ‘th at the end of Heath followed by th at the beginning of Thea makes it quite a tongue twister.

donkeysandzebras · 02/10/2018 22:39

I'd struggle with that. If I was someone who had to say the names together regularly, I'd find the double "th" sound a bit of a tongue twister. I'd also struggle as the names would merge into "Heather" in my mind and I'd never remember what your children actually are called

villainousbroodmare · 02/10/2018 22:41

Yes, too similar imo. It's like you only had one idea and then scrambled it for DC2.

LittleGreenStar · 03/10/2018 06:47

Ha, so seems like a very similar split of opinion as me and DH! Thanks for comments, much appreciated - I hadn't thought of some of these points.

Why is it so hard to find names we both like...?! I have LOADS of names. He has loads of names. We don't agree on any except this one! I mean I think the pp had it right, we basically do have only one idea for both kids...I'm all for leaving it for a few weeks but he is keen to name her when she's born, so we have all of 36 hours to sort it (planned section tomorrow) we're not going to name her tomorrow, it's a pipe dream

I like Thea a lot but it does feel odd to me. But perhaps I'm overthinking it.

LGs
I feel a little guilty now. I posted but didn’t really think about your feelings when i did. Specially didn’t realise just how hugely pregnant you are , good luck tomorrow hope your section goes well Flowers

LittleGreenStar · 03/10/2018 07:02

@Tobermory oh thank you, that's kind, but it's absolutely fine - you weren't rude at all, and I asked for opinions!

I think they sound too similar, sorry! Good luck Thanks

Rebellia · 03/10/2018 10:48

What about Esther? Theodora? Dorothy/Dorothea?

LeeMiller · 03/10/2018 12:03

For me it's not the anagram issue, it's just hard to say the two th sounds together .

Could you have Theodora or Dorothea NN Dora / Dottie?

Kewqueue · 03/10/2018 12:05

I think the bigger problem is that if you have a third child you will have to choose another anagram so they don't feel left out!

Joinourclub · 03/10/2018 12:18

What about:

Taya
Mia
Elsa
Lyra

DancerOnIce · 03/10/2018 13:03

I don’t think they sound too similar and are both lovely names. But as previous posters have said I think I’d find it difficult to say “Heath and Thea”

Tobermory · 04/10/2018 22:59

littlegreenstar, I ‘think’ that today was THE day. Hope your csection went well and your DD is snuggled with you safe and well.

Flowers and Cake.... the Wine should maybe wait a day or two?!

LittleGreenStar · 06/10/2018 11:44

Thank you!!! It was, and she arrived safely and (pretty) smoothly and has been snuggled up against me pretty much ever since Smile Sorry, no wifi in hospital and have been mostly just grinning at her! And yes, lots of Cake so far and maybe some Wine later!

And because I hate an inconclusive thread, we have decided to call her...Clara! In the end she just didn't look to us like she was a "Thea", and Clara's made a re-entry from one of my earlier lists when DH remembered he quite liked it too and it's pretty similar let's face it

Sound completely different!

PutABobbleIn · 06/10/2018 11:45

Wouldn’t notice at all.
I know a Harrison and a Madison sibling set think that does sound way too match’s and strange!
Your choices are lovely op
