Not pregnant but was randomly discussing names with my husband who hates the name Joan. I’m very disappointed as I love it and it was top of my list of names for possible future baby.

What do you guys think of the name?

Really like it, but wouldn’t choose it.
I’ve only known nice Joans.
Might choose something that Joan could be a shortening for.

I love it. It was my grandma's name and it's on my list for this pregnancy, should it be a girl. I know a Joanie if that's any better for you Dh?

I really can't imagine a little girl named Joan. It's a very bland, middle aged office worker name imo x

I really like it. I think its time has come again, a bit like Mary. I only know a couple of Joans - both are in their 80s. It sounds very fresh for a baby now.

Joan/Joanie is a bit of a hipster baby name at the moment, same as Jean/Jeanie.

I know a few. It's really popular where I live. Not hipster at all but just haven't ever moved on from traditional names. I think it's really nice and Joni/Joanie are lovely nn.

Awful. Some names went out of fashion for a reason.

I grew up with a Joan and she loathed her name. Changed it as soon as she could.

Hehe had to reply as this is my name. Still never met a Joan under the age of fifty but I’ve loved my name. Only annoying thing is I get lots of ‘Jo’ or ‘Jane’ and I’m always spelling it out (as people think I should be 80 with this name).
It’s a strong characterful name and I wouldn’t change it and yes nearest dearest call me ‘Joany’ (but that is a bit wet tbh).
If it wasn’t my name I’d consider it for bump. It will be weird for me if there’s a new generation of Joans as I’ve liked it’s uniqueness!

And for some reason I’ve always felt it’s completely different from Joanne or Joanna which always seemed a bit ‘common’ in comparison!

Awful. My 50 odd year old sister is named Joan and it was outdated even then. She hates it.

Funnily enough the only Joan’s I know are middle aged office workers
