I just wish I could rewind time back to when we announced it

You need to prioritise making yourself feel better. Do you have a name you prefer? Rip off the plaster, face the embarrassment and change it.

(Easy for me to say, I made DP tell everyone Blush)

withsexypantsandasausagedog · 06/10/2018 23:06

Change it if you feel that bad!

Loubell21 · 06/10/2018 23:32

Love your name facelikeapairoftits by the way. You are correct. I'm going to add another name and just tell people this one suited her better. Some quite strong reactions on this that I shouldn't! Oh if life was that easy

Loubell21 · 06/10/2018 23:34

Also what was people's reactions like? And was it tramatic or easier than you thought

My husband named dd2 and I bitterly regret going along with it. It's a very safe, but dull, run often mill name that I just don't love. I can't change it now, but if so could back - I would definitely call her something else.

moredoll · 07/10/2018 02:16

It's much easier to change the name before the baby is 12 months old, presumably to take account of name regret.

flumpybear · 07/10/2018 03:18

What do you want to change it to? Just thinking if it's lulu and you change to Louise that's not a big change, but a larger change would be a little more tricky

MrsFoxPlus4 · 07/10/2018 04:06

People will get used to it, change the name.

TheMythicalChicken · 07/10/2018 04:21

Just change it via Deed Poll. It’s about 25 quid. You’ll feel so much change better after you’ve done it. Maybe have a small party to celebrate her new name?

kettleonplease · 07/10/2018 04:58

I honestly think you should change it. Who cares what anyone else thinks!

IvanMashPotatoIvanDoTheTwist · 07/10/2018 05:29

Just change it, your husband can just tell people that you wanted to and remove any embarrassment from himself, a small price to pay for a name you are really happy with xx

IvanMashPotatoIvanDoTheTwist · 07/10/2018 05:29

I wouldn't do it gradually though as people will be all 'what are they calling the child this week!' Just tip the plaster off!

earlybyrd · 07/10/2018 05:36

I changed my baby's name and am SO glad I did. It's not that unusual to do it, agree with op let DP blame you for 'flakiness'. Own the decision and stop faffing, take a deep breath and DO IT

earlybyrd · 07/10/2018 05:36

Pp not op

ReginaPhalange89 · 07/10/2018 06:05

Honestly if you hate it that much and you have for a long time then I think you should just go for it . If you don't you'll regret it, and waiting any longer might confuse her . Better to do it while she's still a baby baby !

FaceLikeAPairOfTits · 07/10/2018 09:09

How are feeling today, OP?

finallychangedmyusername · 07/10/2018 09:52

Do you have another name in mind for your DD, OP? Are you happy to share her name? If so, we could suggest nicknames/transition names to a new name.

Cbeebiesrehab · 07/10/2018 10:06

Change it and then you can move on! 7 months is nothing in the grand scheme of things and it’s clearly causing you distressFlowers

Topseyt · 07/10/2018 10:17

Change it. This isn't an uncommon scenario. Just do it.

You may not even need a deed poll as your baby is still under twelve months of age.

Have your new chosen name as her first name and perhaps keep the one you have been using as a middle name? Although my preference would be to drop the unwanted name totally and just go with the new one because I have been known by most people by my middle name for all of my life and have had a lifetime of constantly having to explain it.

Mountainsided · 07/10/2018 10:19

Just change it. Announce to everyone you’ve wanted to do since day 1 and move this name to a middle name of its easier.
I would think a friend or family member was brave and would support them in this. Baby will quickly learn their new name

Loubell21 · 07/10/2018 11:10

Thanks everyone. It helps when people are being supportive and saying it isn't big deal. Hubby and I have decided to change it. Many thanks all xx

Brilliant. I dropped the old name completely when I got the new birth certificate. No deed poll needed before age 1.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 07/10/2018 11:34

That's good OP. What's the name of you don't mind saying?

flumpybear · 07/10/2018 11:54

Good for you Wink between now and then start calling her by her new name to check you like it and it works
