What about Tansy?

I have a thing for this name, but part of me worries it's a little too cutest? What sort of little girl would you imagine if you thought of a Tansy?

Meant to say cutesy! Stupid auto correct!

I really like Tansy.

bridgetreilly · 30/09/2018 10:16

I think it might get mistaken for Pansy quite a lot, though I like it much better than Pansy.

ElspethFlashman · 30/09/2018 10:22

Only place I've heard it is in Game of Thrones.

daisypond · 30/09/2018 10:23

I like it. I wouldn't try to imagine a little girl - imagine an adult woman, and see if you still like it.

Snipples · 30/09/2018 10:25

Honestly, it sounds like the name of a sanitary towel. Sorry. I don't like it.

YeOldeTrout · 30/09/2018 10:28

dog, surname

daisypond · 30/09/2018 10:32

It's a flower name - similar vibe to Poppy, I'd say. I know an adult Tansy - in her 50s now.

jellyelly · 30/09/2018 10:35

Didn’t Topsy and Tim have an adopted sister called Tansy in the 1970s books? Only time I’ve heard of it (and don’t like it - or Topsy - much!)

Papyrus · 30/09/2018 10:35

It makes me think of the historical use of tansy tea as an abortifacient. Sorry.

MrsApplepants · 30/09/2018 10:40

What about Tamsin?

Marcipex · 30/09/2018 11:41

It's a lovely name. A bright yellow flower.

Sungura · 30/09/2018 11:44

It's more cute than pretty. I'd not like it much as I grew older, would you? Is so, then, take a chance.

Sophaloaf · 30/09/2018 11:45

I ADORE Tansy. It would of been what my DD was called if I had my way.

MeggyD · 30/09/2018 11:52

When I was at primary school there was a really mean girl called Tamsin who used to hold other little girls (me included!) by their throats against the wall if they ever happened to be in the toilet at the same time has her. She never did anything afterwards so I guess she must have seen it on TV or something,, but as a child it was very scary nonetheless! So it's really put me off the name Tamsin! I wonder what happened to her... i'm curious now!

Thank you for all the responses - quite a mixed lot! I suppose it's a bit of a marmite name. Now am I brave enough to use a marmite name, I suppose is the next thing I need to think about!

Tansy was Topsy and Tim's little sister when I was little (70's) she was either fostered or adopted by the family and then they got baby Teddy as well x

BertrandRussell · 30/09/2018 11:56

Just remember that you are naming an adult woman.

MamasGarden · 30/09/2018 12:10

My daughter is called Tansy! Her twin is called Clover. Both nature names and I love them.

She sometimes gets called Taz by her older siblings so that is also a nice nn.

Marcipex · 30/09/2018 21:25

Tansy and Clover are adorable together.

Thistles24 · 01/10/2018 07:18

I like it! Only person I’ve met with the name was a Dr, and nobody flinched when she introduced herself or commented afterwards that it was too cutesy, so I’d say it passes the test of suiting a grown woman!

user14869556378 · 01/10/2018 12:36

Tansy is nice. Another option Maisie?

thegreylady · 01/10/2018 13:45

I love Tansy a pretty name without being ‘cute’.

LaDaronne · 01/10/2018 19:11

I love it FWIW. Not too cutesy, not too common.

MikeUniformMike · 01/10/2018 20:12

I know a lovely adult Tansy. She doesn't like it. I like it.
