Please, help!
The only names me and my dh love and agree on are used for our dd.
And we now (thankfully) hate the name dh chose if she turned out to be a boy.

I know a lot of people don't like to share the names they actually chose for their children, so what names did you or your partner love or had on a short list that you didn't use/ names you've seen since having your babe that you might use for future babes?

Both genders please! not finding out the sex with this babe either :) Many thanks!

Quentin.

Loved it but a bit out there. DS would have rocked it though.

I liked the following girls' names, but didn't use them either because they're very popular, they've been used recently in the family, they clashed with our surname or they reminded me (or someone close to me) of an unpleasant real-life person. I didn't come up with many boys' names as I knew early on that DD was a girl.

Ariana
Esme
Estelle
Isla

I had loads of girls names that I wanted to use. Top of the list were Hester, Coco, Lucy and Hebe.

I had no boys names, nor did DH (OK so I liked Ptolemy but I know I'm a minority and dh vetoed it early on). So obviously, we had 2 boys. Was a real struggle to name them, particularly for ds2. We booked the appointment with the registrar to register his birth on the last day we legally could and were still discussing names as we drove there. To this day, I still have no idea how we ended up with his second name as it's not a name that I have any recollection of discussing or liking or wanting in advance other than it's quite a common name that we scratched off the list in the very early days when going through and saying no to most names.

I also suddenly remembered I wanted my surname adding in as I didn't change my name when I got married, so thought it would be nice and for various reasons, we hadn't added it in to ds1's name when I registered his birth. Didn't think it would be an issue - except it was to DH who said that it wasn't fair for ds2 to have it when ds1 didn't. So instead of adding it to ds2 from the beginning and then adding it to ds1's name, it didn't get added to either Sad. I'd already burst into tears once (I'm blaming the hormones Grin) and as the registrar hadn't got an appointment after us she sent us out to have a chat and compose ourselves so didn't feel up to arguing for it again!

I always loved Erin or Summer for a girl, but one didnt really
sound right with my surname, and OH wasnt totally sold on the
other, but finally settled on a name we both loved, so no
real regrets.

moredoll · 27/09/2018 02:28

Frances (DP wasn't keen)
Freya (not my favourite)
Iona (doesn't work with the surname)

Sophie and India.
I secretly loved Rhiannon but didn't even voice that one, it didn't 'flow' with our surname.

TJsAunt · 27/09/2018 10:09

Stanley & Nina

Couldn't use Nina as ds had a favourite toy fire engine (nee naa) when dd was born and would have been odd to name his little sister after a fire engine! Still slightly regret it....
