Nature names to go with an already nature-y surname

Trying to find nature names that would go with a surname Barley.
I love Meadow and Willow for a girl and Acre for a boy but I think they might sound a bit silly with that surname. Any opinions/suggestions?

I wouldn't go with Acre Barley! Then his name would just sound like 'an acre of barley'.

I think the girls' names Meadow and Willow are both fine with the surname Barley, because they don't, unlike acre, sound like a phrase together.

Winter

dinosaurkisses · 23/09/2018 13:13

Are you naming an elf or a person?

Names dont have to " go with "in my opinion, his / her friends will only use the first name
funny / weird / unfortunate combinations should be avoided but if you really love the name acre ? Call him that. But dont get hung up about it too much

LongDiscoClara · 23/09/2018 13:26

I totally disagree, I think so many people name a child without considering how the first name and surname run together. There's a child in my sons class called Scarlett Boyle. Red Boil! Ffs! It just reminds me of Julia Goolia in the wedding Singer.
I like less nature-y names suggested upthread like Ember.

Butterflycookie · 23/09/2018 13:30

River? Works for both girl and boy

jadedgranger · 23/09/2018 13:47

Scarlett Boyle - tragic!!

Leilia - totally agree it's like an acre of barley. Such a shame because I love the name!

Same reason we quickly vito'ed Pearl!

First name and surname need to sound good together IMO.

jputthekettleon · 23/09/2018 14:11

I have a Meadow so I'm biased 😍
I think Meadow Barley sounds lovely
(Sorry not much help!)

Bimgy85 · 23/09/2018 14:14

I hate all those names and combinations Confused

SweatyFretty · 23/09/2018 14:27

I'd be avoiding nature altogether!

AtticaRose · 23/09/2018 14:39

Pearl Barley! I enjoyed that, thanks for the giggle.

I think you can do nature without it being plants, iyswim. Plants might be a bit much.

Amber
Stella (ie star)
Aster (ie star - though also a flower)
Luna (ie moon)
Selena (ie moon)
Robin
Wren
Marina
Maria

AtticaRose · 23/09/2018 14:48

Alba (ie sunrise)
Dawn
Branwen (beautiful raven)
Brook
Chloe (green shoot)
Columba (dove)
Coral
Coralie
Celia (heaven/sky)
Skye

Ashton (ash tree place)
Bertram (bright raven)
Bran (raven)
Cormac (son of the raven)
Briscoe (birch wood)

AtticaRose · 23/09/2018 15:00

Deborah (bee)
Dorcas (gazelle)
Tabitha (ditto)
Paloma (dove)
Elowen (elm)
Erica (heather)
Margaret and variants (pearl)

Dara (oak)
Eoghan/Eoin/Owen (born from the yew)
Everard (brave boar)
Glen

bridgetreilly · 23/09/2018 15:05

Please don't call her:
Meadow Barley
Winter Barley
Spring Barley
Summer Barley
Autumn Barley.

They are actual (or near) agricultural terms. It would sound SO weird to any farmers. I agree with looking at birds or trees if you want a nature name, but to be honest, I would avoid them altogether.

LeeMiller · 23/09/2018 15:41

Meadow/Acre/Summer/Winter/Autumn Barley sound strange to me, like farming or culinary terms, not a name. Willow Barley is better but it's still sounds like the start of a list of random plants. If you are set on a ntuatre name I'd choose one that's less obvious e.g.:

Chloe
Isla
Seren
Aurora
Erica
Gaia
Luna
Aria
Alba
Daphne
Lillian

Oliver
Robin
Leo
Jasper
Asher
Glyn
Florian

brokenharbour · 23/09/2018 15:43

I really think you need to avoid nature first names if you don't want them to sound like a flower fairy.

Sungura · 23/09/2018 15:43

Alder
Ash
Banyan
Basil
Birch
Branch
Beech

Cedar
Clay

I made your list but agree with other posters. It's kinda weird all most overtly nature names with Barley.

lynmilne65 · 23/09/2018 15:55

Pearl Bailey

MaryBoBary · 23/09/2018 16:18

I agree that meadow and willow etc with your surname are not great. Almost a comedy name, the first name will have to be something less nature themed in my opinion.
