I'm almost 37 weeks and I think me and DH have gone through every girls name ever to exist and haven't settled on one.
We're both in love with the name Winnie but I posted before about the name Winnifred and didn't get a positive response so and i don't love it myself.
Anyway, i came across the name Winora and I love it but DH thinks it sounds made up - thoughts?
Absolutely love the nicknames Winnie and Nora.

Winona surely?

Purpleguppy · 20/09/2018 09:45

No, not keen on Winona.

Winora sounds like its a brand of dog food.

Winona is nice.

Fridgedooropen · 20/09/2018 09:48

It'll look like you've spelled Winona wrong. Just use Winnie.

ImNotBusyImLazy · 20/09/2018 10:00

Sorry, but Winora is not good. Just name her Winnie or Nora! Both are lovely on their own.

RedDwarves · 20/09/2018 10:10

Everyone will think her name is Winona upon seeing it.

florascotia2 · 20/09/2018 10:27

The 'Win' element in Winifred is an anglicised form of the Welsh name element 'Gwen'. So what about long names containing that element, such Guinevere, Gwendolen etc etc (there are many) , with short version Gwennie, Gwinnie or Winnie ?

SweatyFretty · 20/09/2018 10:27

I LOVE Winona

LeeMiller · 20/09/2018 14:43

Looks like a misspelling of Winona, sorry. If you want a longer name for Winnie, Winnifred is much nicer. Or Winter, at a push.

Nora is lovely, on its own or as a shortening for Eleonora, Leonora, Eleanor etc

ariaa · 20/09/2018 16:17

Both Winnie and Nora are lovely on their own - not keen on Winora though sorry!

squirrelnutkins1 · 20/09/2018 16:49

I like it 😊

Shadow1234 · 20/09/2018 16:57

Winnie as a name on its own. Doesnt have to be a longer name
shortened down. If you like it, then go for it.

I would also say Winona rather than Winora if you feel you
must have a longer name. Its your baby, and your decision
at the end of the day,

Purpleguppy · 20/09/2018 18:59

It's popular then! Smile

Winora is dreadful.

ButtermilkBiscuits · 21/09/2018 13:03

It does sound made up. Confused

Fred999 · 21/09/2018 13:06

I quite like it!

villainousbroodmare · 21/09/2018 13:07

Totally made up. And I don't like Winifred much. PPs post re Gwen names is interesting though...

lunar1 · 21/09/2018 13:17

It sounds like a brand name for a cleaning product.

ladycarlotta · 21/09/2018 15:21

Winora's not so good. Just wondering if there aren't more girls' names with that -win or -wyn element @florascotia2 identifies at the end? Like Olwen/Olwyn/Morwyn/Arwen/Eowyn/Bronwen?

All very Welsh options though, assuming you are OK with that.

LuluBellaBlue · 21/09/2018 15:26

I quite like it! Love Nora & Winnie Grin

JasperCopeland · 21/09/2018 15:37

Winora are a company who sell bicycles.

BigGreenOlives · 21/09/2018 15:43

Sounds like ‘Wine or a g&t?’

Fontofnoknowledge · 21/09/2018 16:33

"Use some Winora on that stain and it will come up lovely ... "

bridgetreilly · 21/09/2018 16:37

Winora sounds made up because it is made up, surely?

I really like Winifred, personally.

RavenWings · 21/09/2018 16:40

Winona, lovely. Winora, ugly.
