I would really appreciate some name advice for the imminent arrival of our 3rd son. I’m irish but DH English ( living in N.Ireland). We’re older parents so finding that lots of our favourite names have been used by family and friends already. We have a Cian and a Rory which we love but bit stumped this time. We seem to like shorter simple Irish names but open to suggestions. Here’s a few we like, would welcome honest opinions, be a brutal as you feel please!

Oran ( both like this but very, very popular in our area at moment)
Oisin ( as above)
Conn ( saw this suggested recently on another mumsnet baby name thread and really growing on me)
Dara
Jack
Aidan

P.S - We can’t use Conor, Tiernan, Cormac or Cillian as been used by family.

I don’t think you can have Conn if your elder child is Cian. Same first letter, same last letter, just changing the vowel sound - doesn’t work for me as far too similar.

I immediately thought Eoin on your basis - or you could spell Owen if you wanted more neutral. Also Liam, Tiernan if you liked Tadhg (whatever about any other irish name, I wouldn’t use Tadhg or Saoirse for a child living in N Ireland myself), Peadar, Tomas. How about Irish-type names without necessarily being Irish language? Brendan, Patrick, Declan, Eugene, Emmet...

What about Conleth which can be shortened to Con?

HumpHumpWhale · 22/09/2018 14:58

What about Ruan (Roo-awn). I love it. Also a fan of Ronan and Dara/Daire.

kenandbarbie · 22/09/2018 15:06

I would think of eoin or Tomas to go with your other names.

I love Cormac and Finn
