Sounds fine. Good strong sensible name.

fourpawswhite · 14/09/2018 09:02

I like it, but I think it would be JJ by friends at school. So if you don't want JJ beware.

EverybodysChanging · 14/09/2018 09:03

But surely his school friends wouldn't really know his middle name?

fourpawswhite · 14/09/2018 09:16

Yeah possibly. I'm quite rural so small schools, kids tend to know these things. I just know my nephew and brother both had names shortened to initials at school when previously hadn't. Just my experience though.

Lovely names either way.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/09/2018 09:55

"It wont be abbrieviated to JJ"
Will he get a say in that. With the greatest It's his name. If he wants to be JJ then that's it. Rule of names....Don't use it if you don't like what it maybe shortened to
I Dont like it sorry but my opinion is neither here nor there.

Ceeeeeelia · 14/09/2018 10:47

Joel Hughes is great, and I wouldn't worry about the abbreviation. People might well know his full name but that doesn't necessarily meant they'll use or shorten it.

But yes to those who say you can't control these things - my brother is (still) known to his School friends as LuLu, which is nothing like his name. No one has a clue where it came from.

Zazia · 14/09/2018 11:01

Great name

RavenWings · 14/09/2018 11:06

It's his name, if he wants it to be JJ it'll be that. Speaking as a teacher, kids do talk about middle names and most know the middle name of at least their best friend.

Cbeebiesrehab · 14/09/2018 11:27

My son’s initials are J.J...he’s never been called JJ. In fact in all the years of teaching I have only known one JJ so I really don’t think it will be an automatic abbreviation. Especially if you’ve never called him it prior to school. It’s a nice name :)

EverybodysChanging · 14/09/2018 11:31

I meant that we won't abbreviate it to JJ, at least while he's little. Of course it's his name! If he decided he wanted to go by any name I'd obviously completely respect that. A previous poster said that school friends would shorted it to JJ and I was only questioning whether his friends would even know his middle name. I know very few of my friends middle names.

Anyway, obviously he can go by what he likes but we (his parents) won't be abbreviating it! (Unless he one day asks us otherwise). Jeez!

Lovely name!

I am considering a name with first and middle both starting with "C" but am worried about the nn CeeCee as it's really twee.. JJ wouldn't be awful if he decided to go with that later on. I appreciate you'd call him Joel (which is really nice).

I hope that made sense...

finallychangedmyusername · 14/09/2018 13:46

Big thumbs up. Two of my favourite boys names.

Icklepup · 14/09/2018 14:41

Nice

Sandstormbrewing · 14/09/2018 19:10

My ex was Bradley James Stott - he got BJ a lot at school. So yeah, JJ totally possible.

strawberrypenguin · 14/09/2018 19:11

Lovely

Gobletoffire · 14/09/2018 19:32

I think it’s a really good name

Goostacean · 14/09/2018 19:47

Joel is a great name. Joel Hughes... Nice.

deptfordgirl · 14/09/2018 19:53

Lovely. As you say middle names are rarely known or used but I love Joel.

Bonusbab · 14/09/2018 20:45

Love it. I’d go for Joel if I have a boy if it wasn’t DH’s name! Always thought it’s a cute name for a little boy but also good strong name when grown up too.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 14/09/2018 20:48

Thumbs up from me.

MikeUniformMike · 14/09/2018 20:53

Joel Hughes doesn't sound as good

Yellowsunredroses · 15/09/2018 05:51

It’s ok but it’ll be jj for sure as a nickname

Joel Hughes doesn’t sound very strong

Jacob Hughes does

I’d go Jacob Hughes - loose the Joel and use a family name for a middle name

17caterpillars1mouse · 15/09/2018 07:25

I really like Joel I heard it on a little bit this week (he was about 3) and thought it was sweet

Picknickers · 16/09/2018 00:40

I think it sounds fine. I really like both names.
