Would you say it’s old fashioned?

I like old fashioned, classic names. Old Testament vibe ( we already have a Seth)

Husband and I have agreed on Jude (we also like short names) but wondered if it seems a bit modern? What kind of name would you class Jude as? Middle name will be Harold for family connection but will not consider it for a first name. Thanks.

It's been back in fashion for a while. To me names like Darren, Steven or Trevor are old fashioned not Jude.

Enko · 10/09/2018 10:23

I think Seth and Jude comes from a similar set up. I would not actually think " old Testament" more " on trend" type names for both.

Gigijones21 · 10/09/2018 10:26

I guess old fashioned may be the wrong word. I can’t explain what I mean very well. Like from the same category as Albert, Alfred, Martha, Florence type names.

I think it's a lovely name that goes well with Seth. That's all that matters 😊

ReginaPhalange89 · 10/09/2018 14:47

I really like it, and love Seth! They go lovely together.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 10/09/2018 14:48

I love it.

ConsiderHerWaysAndOthers · 10/09/2018 14:52

Love Jude! To me it’s quite of the moment though and the exact opposite of old fashioned though. So if you don’t want something that’s ‘on trend’ then perhaps reconsider. But I think it’s great and goes really well with Seth.

YerAuntFanny · 10/09/2018 14:52

I've always thought of Seth and Jude as trendy names although not try hard trendy if that makes sense, like weird sleb kid names...

LeeMiller · 10/09/2018 14:57

It's lovely and works very well with Seth.

I think it's been fashionable again since Jude Law became famous. It's old fashioned in the sense of the Old Testament, like Isaac, Ezra, Jacob, Elijah, Noah, Saul, all of which are fairly popular at the moment.

I definitely wouldn't group it with Albert, Alfred, Martha, Florence and other names popular in the Victorian/ Edwardian era.

Ilovewillow · 10/09/2018 14:58

I have a Seth too, he has a sister so no help there but other names we considered were:
Gage
Gabriel/Gabe
Wilbur
Benedict

Jude is lovely as well and IMO goes well with Seth.

ashtrayheart · 10/09/2018 14:58

If you both like the name go for it, does it matter whether if fits into a category?

I like the name and considered it for one of mine if they'd been a boy.

Oddcat · 10/09/2018 15:00

I like Jude whether or not it's classed a sold fashioned . Do you mean 'traditional' names rather than old fashioned .

Ceebs85 · 10/09/2018 19:53

I love Jude but OH thinks it's too biblical

Shadow1234 · 10/09/2018 23:08

I also think Jude is a lovely name and goes well with Seth.

Ngaio2 · 10/09/2018 23:21

Jude the Obscure is a novel by Thomas Hardy (author of Tess of the D’Urbervilles) about a man called Jude in he early 1800s. Was used quite a lot then as were other Old Testament names. Has been revived recently but far from common. I think the Beatles song might have made it more popular, though it was written for Julian Lennon, not a Jude
So I feel itmore of a trad name than one with a modern feel to it

Lauren0rder · 10/09/2018 23:23

Love Jude

Not so sure about Jude Harold.

I don’t think he will thank you for that.
Could you add another name?

Goostacean · 11/09/2018 02:11

I like it but it’s not old-fashioned in the way that you mean, OP. I’d say it’s quite a modern choice! Jude Harold seems like a bit of a juxtaposition, to me.

Other names that fall into the short ‘n’ sweet Biblical traditional category: Aaron, Abel, Ben (Benjamin, Benedict), David, Eli, James, John, Levi, Luke, Mark, Paul, Peter...

pallisers · 11/09/2018 02:19

it is very slightly unusua and hipster/trendy where I live. Would definitely go with Seth which would be seen as similar.

Wouldn't see it as old-fashioned. Old-fashioned would be Edward, Thomas, George Henry etc.

It is a lovely name though.

moredoll · 11/09/2018 02:22

Jude is lovely and goes. well with Seth. I don't think of it as an 'Albert' kind of name at all.

Gigijones21 · 11/09/2018 07:28

Thank you all. Think we are going to go with Jude as agree it goes well with Seth and that’s the most important thing at the end of the day.

I agree that Jude Harold doesn't go together. I live Jude though

Haireverywhere · 11/09/2018 07:44

Jude Harold....sounds a bit clonky if that's a word?
