Nola or Nora

We aren't even TTC, in fact DC#4 might not ever happen but on the off chance...

For a girl I love Nora but my ex boss who was a misogynistic, rude and generally nasty bastard named his daughter Nora. So part of me can't bear the association!

I just heard Nola on a TV programme and thought it was nice but not sure it's as nice as Nora.

So, Nora or Nola?

I don't think it's as nice, sorry.
How about Cora? Or Flora?

RavenWings · 09/09/2018 22:17

I'm sure someone will come along to suggest Nuala to you, so thought I'd pop it in. Personally I hate it, very middle aged name in Ireland. It does have a similar sound to what you want, though (Noo la).

I don't like Nola or Nora. Plus Nola is the abbreviation for New Orleans, isn't it? Might sound strange in the US? Although many kids are named things like Austin so probably not.

Dora? Finola?

How about Eleanora, nicknamed Nora (but you don't have to tell your boss that)

LeeMiller · 09/09/2018 22:57

Nora is much nicer than Nola if you can get past the association. Nola makes me think of New Orleans and the Nolan sisters...

Orla / Nell /Cora ?

moredoll · 09/09/2018 23:05

Don't like either, sorry. Nora sounds harsh to me.

spugzbunny · 09/09/2018 23:24

I love Nora! I think it's lovely

JungWan · 09/09/2018 23:27

Finola nola is nicer
Nora is harder sounding

I really love the name Nola - was on my shortlist for DD. Nora sounds more old-fashioned to me.

Disfordarkchocolate · 10/09/2018 11:37

I know a lovely Nora so that's my favourite. Both nice names though.

Icklepup · 11/09/2018 15:29

Nora

Sungura · 11/09/2018 15:40

I like both. I'm inclined to suggest Nola, though. It's more original. Finola is a nice longer name with the came sound. When/if the time comes maybe you will have found new names altogether that you prefer.

I don't like either sorry. To me Nora is "old lady but not fashionable again"
