Here is a list of names I like, and have considered, but none of them are perfect. I’m hoping that I just haven’t come across the perfect one yet.
Please tell me, if I like the following names, what other names might I like. I already have a ds called William.

Thank you!

Zachary
Hamish
Jack
Alexander
Harry
Oliver
Harrison
Lewis
Benjamin
Edward
George
Nathanial
Dexter
Elliot
Fletcher
Jackson
Sebastian
Archie
Ted
Jonah
Elijah

Hamish is a diminutive of James btw

No it’s not. It’s the English version of the Gaelic Seamus which correlates with the English James.

TatianaLarina · 07/09/2018 22:13

Zachary, Hamish, Sebastian, Alexander and Edward - all very nice.

DollyDayScream · 07/09/2018 22:19

William & Alexander
William & George
William & John
William & James
William & Robert

PutneyBridge · 07/09/2018 22:22

Matthew
Robert
James
Joseph
Michael

On your list my favourites are Alexander, Edward, Benjamin and George.

moredoll · 07/09/2018 23:09

No it’s not. It’s the English version of the Gaelic Seamus which correlates with the English James.

That's as may be. But I can assure you that Hamish is used as a diminutive of James. I'm the daughter of one.

Wallabyone · 07/09/2018 23:14

Christopher!

AlliKaneErikson · 08/09/2018 00:46

I have a Harri (Harrison) so I’m obviously a bit biased (NB we spell it Harri not Harry because we’re in Wales and we like the Welsh spelling).

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 08/09/2018 10:16

William and Benjamin (Will and Ben).

Flamingosnbears · 08/09/2018 10:24

William and Harold?...

TatianaLarina · 08/09/2018 10:28

It may be a nick name within the family, but it doesn’t make Hamish a diminutive of James. That’s potentially offensive to Gaelic speakers. Dims of James are Jim/my and Jamie.

hellsbells552 · 08/09/2018 10:38

How about Jonas instead of Jonah?

ToBeARockAndNotToRoll · 08/09/2018 10:40

William and Noah

How about -

William and Joseph?

Eminybob · 08/09/2018 14:03

DH is James which is one of the reasons we were considering Hamish, as it happens, as we know there is a connection. His dads side of the family are Scottish and we have a Mc surname.

Some lovely suggestions and thanks for the opinions on my list. I’m still no closer though!

Zachary - Very popular
Hamish - nice if you have scottish ancestry
Jack - Very popular
Alexander - Very popular
Harry - goes well with William
Oliver - very popular
Harrison - not keen. Prefer Harry
Lewis - ok
Benjamin - goes well with William
Edward - goes well with William
George - fine
Nathanial - misspelt and too long
Dexter - no
Elliot - sounds feeble
Fletcher - Norman Stanley. Fletch the lech
Jackson - Five
Sebastian - horrible.
Archie - ok for a labradoodle
Ted - goes well with William
Jonah - no
Elijah - too babyish

so it is between William and Harry, William and Edward and William and Benjamin.
Do you call William Bill?

TatianaLarina · 08/09/2018 14:34

Hamish is gorgeous OP - if you’ve got Scottish ancestry I’d go for that.

moredoll · 08/09/2018 14:37

Another diminutive of James in Scotland is Jaz, much less common now than it used to be. I think it comes from olden times when shops and so on would be Jas. McSporran, General Stores etc. I'd go for James on the birth certificate and use Jaz as a nn.

BikeRunSki · 08/09/2018 14:37

Frazer

Dobinette · 08/09/2018 14:40

How about Maximilian or Maxwell?

Dauphinois · 08/09/2018 14:43

Dominic. Definitely.

Will and Dom, it works!

CaseStudyResearch · 08/09/2018 14:46

You have similar taste to me, half your list is the same as mine!

I’ve also got:
Caleb
Cormac
Ronan
Joseph (nn Jos)
Jago (Cornish version of James)

Dandybelle · 08/09/2018 14:47

What about Gabriel?

CaseStudyResearch · 08/09/2018 14:47

Ah just seen the Mc surname so wouldn’t sound right with Cormac!
