Thoughts for my girls?

I had a recent thread earlier in my pregnancy of the name daffodil, that was quickly shut down but I am pretty set on the names Stella-Marie Joyce Mitchell and Adelie-Blaise Kathaleen Mitchell. I’m open to suggestions on changes but I’m just looking for opinions, cheers!

I thought Blaise was a boys name

Adelie sounds made up whereas the long form options (Adelaide/Adeline) and Adelie as a nickname nicer

I would also go for either just double barrelled and surname or no double barrell and middle name as Double Barrell Plus Middle Name Plus Surname seems OTT

Stella-Marie is nice but not my personal taste

PawneeParksDept · 06/09/2018 01:53

So I would go either

Stella-Marie Mitchell

and

Adelie-? Mitchell

Or

Stella Joyce Mitchell

And

Adelaide Kathleen Mitchell

Just FYI, your daughters' names will fit on no forms ever if you keep them that long. That may not be a problem, but my daughter's name is 6-letter first name, 9-letter second name and often does not fit.

Chloejean · 06/09/2018 02:33

I am from the south in the U.S (Texas pride!) and double names are very common (ec: Mary Ellen, Anna Grace ect) and the Blaise part of Adelie Blaise is after my Aunt who passed away a few months ago. Adelie is an American name, it is not so common but it is a name

BasiliskStare · 06/09/2018 02:41

I think Stella ( on its own ) is a fabulous name - it needs nothing else added with a hyphen for a first name IMHO. I also think Blaise is a boy's name but Mary or Marianne would be lovely. Anyway - your choice - wish you well, ( but I do love Stella as a name ) Grin

moredoll · 06/09/2018 03:27

I think of Blaise as a girls' name and I'm in the UK.
I like Stella Marie and Adelie Blaise, Joyce is okay. I don't like Kathaleen, prefer Kathleen..
I prefer them as single names.

Sophronia · 06/09/2018 03:36

I prefer them without the hyphen.

Chloejean · 06/09/2018 03:42

@Sophronia I am from the south and have a tradition of double names in my family so I think I am going to keep the hyphensGrin

Chloejean · 06/09/2018 03:44

@moredoll I’m keeping the a in Kathaleen because it’s my mothers name but a lot of people don’t like the hyphens but they are a tradition in my family

abbie7 · 06/09/2018 07:47

I prefer both without the hyphen. Seems a little bit unnecessary to be double barrelled. Adore the name Stella Smile

YogaPants · 06/09/2018 07:58

Stella-Marie and and Adelie-Blaise, I like (autocorrect prefers Adeline).

Are Joyce and Kathaleen family names? I prefer Joy and Katherine as names but I don’t think it really matters and it is nice to have a family element.

Sparklyfee · 06/09/2018 08:27

Have you had a NC fail here?

ReginaPhalange89 · 06/09/2018 19:53

I don't like double names as first names personally. I think Stella and Adelie are fine on there own (although I do automatically think of Stella Artois when I hear Stella, sorry!)

Never heard of blaise before either, not keen on that part either

DC06 · 06/09/2018 20:39

I like Stella-Marie best it's a edgy but not too out there combo imo. I agree the double barrel plus mn and surname is a bit much x

Pollydidntputthekettleon · 06/09/2018 20:45

If im being honest OP, they sound like Eastenders characters...and not just because of the surname. Especially Stella-Marie.

I think the double barrelled are too much and don't flow at all.

The middle names on top of the double barrelled names are too much in my opinion.

Stella-Marie Joyce Mitchell- this sounds like a very dated name. I love the name Marie and Stella is ok but as a double barrelled name plus Joyce...it sounds like a dated name in the way Sharon or Tracy are a bit dated.

Adelie-Blaise Kathaleen Mitchell- Adelie sounds made up and a bit 'cutesie'. I prefer Adela but it's not awful. Blaise is horrid. Kathleen is ok but again, with the double barrelled first name, it's too much.

Flamingosnbears · 06/09/2018 20:46

How about Stellamaris all one which is is the same as Stella - Marie...

Flamingosnbears · 06/09/2018 20:46

You may like Marigold if you like Daffodil...

noitsachicken · 06/09/2018 20:49

Are you having twins?
Adelie is a species of penguin.

noitsachicken · 06/09/2018 20:50

Adelie penguin

JustlikeDevon · 06/09/2018 21:17

I love Stella. Stella-marie sounds like a Nolan sister. I don't know how to pronounce the other name- Adele ee or Adele eye?

MikeUniformMike · 06/09/2018 21:44

How about Blaise-Pascale Kathaleen-Daffodil?

bridgetreilly · 06/09/2018 23:33

Are you really looking for opinions or are you looking for affirmation?

Because my honest opinion is that those are truly terrible names. But I won't tell you that if you're only looking for affirmations.

bridgetreilly · 06/09/2018 23:34

Have you had a NC fail here?

That's what I'm assuming.

bridgetreilly · 06/09/2018 23:35

Also, you're from Texas and you want opinions from a UK forum? Why, exactly?

Sungura · 07/09/2018 03:26

When your babies get to school, their names will be shortened for them. Even before that, by family, I'd wager. There's nothing wrong with choosing three names, but hyphenating the first names will not ensure they're called that. Your daughter Stella has a name that flows. That's good, whether anybody else likes it it or not. Your second daughter has been given, thus far, a name with pretty unpleasant rhythms. Adella Kathleen Blaise sounds tons better.
