Pronounced Ka-REEN-ah

I’ve liked it since childhood but what do you all think for a girl?

I think I have seen it spelled with a K rather than a C. With a C it reminds me of a cat food brand - sorry.

Kewqueue · 04/09/2018 08:18

As an Italian speaker I don't like it - Sorry! It means "nice" in a sort of non-committal way - but I am probably strongly influenced by my kids saying it sarcastically all the time.

StuckInTheMiddleWithJude · 04/09/2018 09:28

With a C, carina is a ridge of cartilage in the windpipe just at the junction of the two main bronchi... I would only spell it with a K if you are set on it.

ShatnersBassoon · 04/09/2018 09:30

Toyota.

CatherineCrewe · 04/09/2018 09:31

I know two, strangely. I'm not a huge fan.

TatianaLarina · 04/09/2018 09:51

I prefer Calina/Kalina.

llangennith · 04/09/2018 09:59

Isn't it a brand of cat food?

Numberofthemouse · 04/09/2018 10:00

No! Anatomically it's where the trachea ends and the right and left main bronchi emerge. Anyone medical will wince at that one.
Not as bad as meleana though.......

BellMcEnd · 04/09/2018 10:04

Agree with previous posters - the carina is an anatomical term.

Numberofthemouse or Candida........Grin

NannyR · 04/09/2018 10:05

With regards to it being a medical term, isn't Amelia a medical condition of being born without limbs? That doesn't stop it being an extremely popular name.

I like Carina but prefer it spelt with a K.

Hoppinggreen · 04/09/2018 10:05

I know one spelt with a K
The family is English/Portuguese so it works in both languages
I quite like it

RiverTam · 04/09/2018 10:14

I thought it was an Italian form of endearment, like darling or love. So bit odd as a name.

Numberofthemouse · 04/09/2018 10:29

Nanny Amelia is a more established name, and not so commonly used. Also usually prefixed by a descriptor, tetra-amelia for example.

Carina is commonly used. Karina would be much better if you really like the name.

Eistigi · 04/09/2018 14:12

I like it! There was quite a few around when I was growing up with lots of different spellings. Karina, Carina, Corinna - I like them all 😊

RavenWings · 04/09/2018 16:08

Love it, such a pretty name. Not liking Karina at all.

LeeMiller · 04/09/2018 16:09

I know an elderly Italian woman called Carina, but hear it more often as a word meaning nice/cute/sweet, so I think it's a bit wishy-washy. Corinna, Cora, Coralie or Coraline are all stronger sounding in my opinon.

DC06 · 04/09/2018 18:21

One if my friends is named Carina. She is Swedish and is gorgeous, smart funny and kind seems to suit her name x

SuperstarDJ · 04/09/2018 19:24

I prefer Corina/Corinna.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 04/09/2018 19:24

Ahhhh Bob Dylan!

MikeUniformMike · 04/09/2018 20:08

I like it. Isn't it David Frost's widow's name. I would think Toyota though.
