Full name for Libby?

We’re set on calling dd Libby - dp and I just can’t agree on what it should be short for.

He likes Elisabeth, I prefer Liberty.

We’ve also considered Olivia (but it’s so popular at the moment), and we both really like Lydia (but it seems like Lydie would be a more obvious nn)

Any thoughts?

Id just use Libby tbh. Its perfectly fine aa a name in its own right.

If you would rather have a longer version, Elizabeth is a classic, however there is no guarantee that others and she will end up using Libby.

NonaGrey · 02/09/2018 16:00

Elizabeth is the traditional long version of Libby.

If I met a Libby I would assume Elizabeth.

LeonoraFlorence · 02/09/2018 16:01

Lily Beth?

Abouttoblow · 02/09/2018 16:03

I don't understand.

If you want to call her Libby why are you looking for another name to use? Why does it need to be short for something else?

Pebblespony · 02/09/2018 16:08

Isn't that like having a "good" room that nobody is ever allowed to use. Whats the point of giving her a name that you are planning on not using.

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 02/09/2018 16:10

If I met a Libby I would assume her full name was Elizabeth.

Cbeebiesrehab · 02/09/2018 16:12

Because it’s nice for her to have a more ‘formal’ option for when she gets older/CV etc. Lots of people are fans of a more formal name on a BC.
I would go for Elizabeth, nice and classic. Just call her Libby from day one and people will follow suit (this is from my experience)

Burp1 · 02/09/2018 16:12

I know a liberty and an Elizabeth called Libby as well as a Libby with no other name. I'd just go Libby.

PotteringAlong · 02/09/2018 16:13

Elizabeth. Everyone will assume it’s elizabeth anyway.

5krunning · 02/09/2018 16:13

Elizabeth is much classier than Liberty IMO

MinaPaws · 02/09/2018 16:14

Why not be brave and call her Elizabeth Liberty? I think they go quite well together.

GladAllOver · 02/09/2018 16:15

I have known two girls who go by the name Libby. They were both registered as Elizabeth.
I went to the wedding of one. The registrar said she had to use her 'proper' name, not Libby.

mammmamia · 02/09/2018 16:15

Elizabeth is the assumed long name and is so much nicer than Liberty.

IVflytrap · 02/09/2018 16:17

Much prefer Liberty.

DurhamDurham · 02/09/2018 16:24

If I heard Libby I would assume the full name to be Liberty, it's a lovely name

ProseccoPoppy · 02/09/2018 16:36

Elizabeth is lovely, and I know several who shorten it to Libby, which is really lovely. Liberty is much less classic and tbh I really don’t like it.

PenelopeThePufferfish · 02/09/2018 16:44

I love Liberty! Like Elizabeth too.

Not keen on Libby on its own for some reason... don’t know why, as I do like some traditional shortenings as full names. Just not Libby.

HappydaysArehere · 02/09/2018 16:50

Beth is my favourite short name for Elizabeth. Not so keen on Libby however you are the mum so don’t take any notice of me.

Talith · 02/09/2018 17:05

I'd assume Liberty. Elizabeth is Lizzy not Libby in my head! Or Lilibet if you want to be like the Queen.

Talith · 02/09/2018 17:06

I fancy Libby's tomato juice now Grin

GingerCatBigBalls · 02/09/2018 18:08

Love the name Liberty... Unfortunately George Osbourne named his daughter that which has sadly put me off Sad

That aside, either is good. Elizabeth has the option of lots of other nicknames if she wants them which could be an advantage or disadvantage depending on your pov.

AdaColeman · 02/09/2018 18:14

Elizabeth is the traditional long name. Liberty is a bit burlesque dancer to me! Grin

Lilao · 02/09/2018 18:20

I know at least two Libby's with no longer name.

I think that these days if you like the name - use it. It doesn't need to be a nickname for something else.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 02/09/2018 18:40

Lilibeth.

ReginaPhalange89 · 02/09/2018 23:01

I'd personally just use Libby, I'm not fussed on 'formal names'

I'd prefer Elizabeth to Liberty though, of the 2. Elizabeth sounds classier , Liberty is not my cup of tea at all .
