It’s my old Irish meaning ‘dark’. Both DH and I had Irish grandparents.

Worried it may sound a bit made up though....

For a girl? Boy?

How is it pronounced?

obviouslyperfect · 30/08/2018 18:56

I have never heard of it. “Tie nan” ?

You’d get Ty as a nn, like with Tyrone.

Ginmakesitallok · 30/08/2018 18:58

It's a wee village near where I grew up. Not a name.

Redrosebelle · 30/08/2018 18:59

I think it does sound a bit made up, similar to Tyler or Kaylen. But I do like that it has meaning!

cinammonrollsnotgenderroles · 30/08/2018 19:21

I read that and immediately Thought 'Wear' as in Tyne and Wear.

WrongKindOfFace · 30/08/2018 19:24

I don’t think it is an actual Irish name?

GraceMarks · 30/08/2018 19:32

It makes me think of Kenneth Tynan first, and then I thought it sounded like an obscure Lannister cousin. Not necessarily a bad thing.

Ginger1982 · 30/08/2018 19:51

I thought it looked made up sorry OP.

MikeUniformMike · 30/08/2018 23:34

Kenneth. Surname as a first name. Ok as a mn but not as 1st name.

moredoll · 31/08/2018 02:27

Not really

sexnotgender · 31/08/2018 16:42

I’d want to say wear after it too.

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 31/08/2018 16:44

no, it just sounds like Kenneth.

Tyrone or Tyson are both fine names..:)

Felton · 31/08/2018 22:38

I just here Tyne 'n, as in 'Tyne and Wear'

Felton · 31/08/2018 22:38

*hear

kaytee87 · 01/09/2018 07:42

Is it actually an Irish name or just an Irish word? So a bit like just calling a child 'dark'?

Cel982 · 01/09/2018 07:50

I don't think it's terrible, but I've only ever heard it as a surname, not a first name (I'm Irish).

What about Tiernan (TEER-nun)?

cptartapp · 01/09/2018 08:03

I know a few with it as a surname. Not keen as a forename.

hoping2018 · 01/09/2018 08:11

I like it! but I did wonder if you got it form game of thrones! Lol

GinIsIn · 01/09/2018 08:16

Kenneth. And also Tylenol.

SavoyCabbage · 01/09/2018 08:19

I know one. He’s ridiculously posh. In fact, I think he might be a Lord or similar.

flumpybear · 01/09/2018 08:19

It dies look a bit made up like Jaydox or tacson etc ...

Dorcha · 02/09/2018 09:13

Yeah I know, it is very 'Lannister'... Also looks a bit made up, along the lines of 'Kyron' or 'Zayden'.

What do you all think of Torin?

OP posts:
Bagger288 · 02/09/2018 20:35

Ooh I like Torin. Much nicer than Tynan.

Plus Tor is a much nicer sounding NN than Ty I think.
