Camille or Isabelle

Hi I'm having my first baby and it's a girl and I'm really struggling with which name to go for.

What are your thoughts?

And is the name Isabelle too popular or common with kids in nursery/school now?

Camille

Isabelle. I don't like the meal sound in Camille.

Camille

I don't know any Camille or Isabelles personally. I think Isabella is more common than Isabelle

Peachbubble · 30/08/2018 14:38

Camille

Sunflower321 · 30/08/2018 14:40

Why the French spellings? In England I'd use Camilla and Isabel.

GoodHeavensNoImAChicken · 30/08/2018 14:44

Isabelle is lovely and timeless

shumway · 30/08/2018 14:45

Isobel. They will probably get called Izzy though.

raininthenightgarden · 30/08/2018 16:21

Camille is lovely

Maireadd · 30/08/2018 16:28

Camille! It’s beautiful.

Isabelle has a lovely sound but there are just so many at the moment.

kenandbarbie · 30/08/2018 17:02

Camille or I prefer Isabel

SemperIdem · 30/08/2018 17:13

Camille.

Isabelle/Isabella are so overdone at the moment.

We live in an affluent area of the north and around here Isabelle is what I imagine Sarah was in the 90’s.

I work with 3, my mother helps out part time at a nursery and they have to add the last initial to all the Isabelle/ Isabella’s names to identify them as there’s 4-5. Several of my Facebook friends have named their daughters Isobelle. It’s a lovely name but personally I would use it based on how ‘regular’ it’s becoming.

It happens all the time though, I used to love ‘Scarlett’ and ‘Florence’ but they're everywhere now.

I watched a young mother, in primark ugg boots, swearing on her mobile whist screaming (in the roughest accent imaginable) at her daughter “Scarlett get back ere right nah”.

Ruined it for me forever!

Camille is more classic and less trendy (for now at least) xx

How dare someone rough name their DD Scarlett and ruin it for the refined and dignified.

MrsMolehillMountain · 30/08/2018 17:55

Isabelle for sure

JiltedJohnsJulie · 30/08/2018 17:55

Camille. DD has an Izzy, an Isobel and an Isabelle in her year. There’s only 14 girls.

Flamingosnbears · 30/08/2018 17:57

Camille... Isabelle is lovely but too popular unless that doesn't bother you?

EthelThePiratesDaughter · 30/08/2018 19:12

I think Camille is fine if you are French and most people will say it in a French accent but I don't like the "meel" sound at the end when English speakers say it.

I like Camilla better.

Sunflower321 · 30/08/2018 20:29

I agree. In French Camille (Cam-ee) sounds nice but I'd worry about it being mispronounced in English. Camilla is the English version and works much better imo.

Same with Isabelle. Pronounced IsaBELLE in French. I prefer Isabel in England.

Sunflower321 · 30/08/2018 20:29

Maybe the op is French?

OutPinked · 30/08/2018 20:40

I like both but I’m veering towards Isabelle.

LightDrizzle · 30/08/2018 23:03

I prefer Isobel, the pre-Twilight English spelling. The rise of Isabelle in the U.K. is amazing. I’ve always chosen names that have shortened versions I can bear, as you can’t control what they get called as they get older. I like Izzy, and there is also the option of Belle/ Bella.
