Hello, we're quite undecided with names of our little one who's due any day and would love your opinion.
I think we're edging towards Cerys but I'm not keen on it being shortened to Kerry and know I'll have no control over this! Where as the others on our short list I prefer the shortened versions of.
We're thinking of using our paternal grandmother's names as middle names so that's Ivy and Thelma if that helps at all. Thanks!

I know a Cerys, she’s never Kerry! She’s Cer (hard C) for short

I’m in South Wales where Kerry becomes Ker, Ian becomes E etc, one syllable shortenings are everywhere

Peachbubble · 24/08/2018 20:14

Love Harriet, like Cerys, not keen on Beatrice and really dislike Verity.

ilovewelshrarebit123 · 24/08/2018 20:15

I've got a Cerys, no one has ever shortened her name to Ceri/Kerry.

It's a popular name in Wales and means 'to love'.

Moonflower12 · 24/08/2018 22:56

I love Verity but my DP and DD didn't believe it was a real name?!?!

AlliKaneErikson · 25/08/2018 11:24

Cerys (I’ve never heard it shortened either).

MikeUniformMike · 25/08/2018 12:28

Harriet or Beatrice.

bridgetreilly · 25/08/2018 15:08

Never heard of a Cerys being called Kerry (or Ceri). Personally I prefer Harriet and Beatrice, though.

Ozgirl01 · 25/08/2018 15:29

Lovely list! My favourite is Harriet, but I do love them all.

Kerry is not an intuitive nn for Cerys, like say Ben for Benjamin, so I wouldn't worry about Cerys being shortened.

Good luck deciding!

fattyboomboomboom · 26/08/2018 00:28

Verity is lovely with a short middle name like Jane.

Ginandplatonic · 26/08/2018 00:31

They are all lovely. Beatrice is my least favourite - just sounds a bit wet to me. Verity is my most favourite. But you can't go wrong really.

grumpy4squash · 26/08/2018 00:35

I've always loved Cerys, never met one in real life.
In my area, Harriet/Hattie is really popular, Beatrice not so much.
I have only met one Verity, however it is the name of a UK charity for women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, not sure if that matters to you.
They are all fabulous names :)

llangennith · 26/08/2018 00:40

Cerys is an old fashioned and unpopular Welsh name. Please don't saddle her with this name.

LMDC · 26/08/2018 02:32

I love all four names, but if Cerys is your favourite then go with that! Ceri and Cerys have the same amount of syllables so people nn'ing her Ceri wouldn't make any sense. If anyone tries to nn her when she's young you can always correct them - don't let it put you off!

MrsFoxPlus4 · 26/08/2018 03:00

Don’t know any Cerys that gets shortened to Kerry. Apart from that I love V names! Verity is lovely

veeboo · 26/08/2018 07:32

I'm a Verity and it's great. No-one called me Variety but spell check can be a problem!

AlliKaneErikson · 26/08/2018 10:46

Not sure why you say it’s ‘unpopular’, Llangennith ; there are lots of little girls around here called Cerys and it’s a very popular name here, I’d say.

AtticaRose · 26/08/2018 10:49

Can't go wrong with that list! I'd say go with Cerys if it's your favourite.

itssquidstella · 26/08/2018 10:56

Beatrice or verity.

MrsRachel85 · 26/08/2018 11:11

Definitely don’t use Cerys if you don’t like Kerry as a nickname. Beatrice and Harriet are lovely, as are your middle names.

N0bodysM0t · 26/08/2018 11:13

Beatrice is lovely.
Verity is lovely too but ver isnt as nice a nn as bea

N0bodysM0t · 26/08/2018 11:15

I like Kerry. It has a slightly unisex vibe which i like more than cerys.

Harriet is awful.

IVEgotthePOWER · 26/08/2018 11:17

Love Verity
Like Cerys

beanaseireann · 26/08/2018 13:56

Carys

Brandnewstart · 26/08/2018 19:16

I know a couple of Cerys’ and a Carys. Never shortened to Ceri and not old fashioned where I am - they are all 10 and under.

Picknickers · 26/08/2018 22:50

I have a very new Carys so a bit biased.
