Alcie

Just found Alcie in a list of girls' names meaning 'strong'. Probably a bit nicknamey to win DH round but might be an alternative for people considering Dulcie?

I’d assumed it was a typo and was supposed to be Alice.

sirlee66 · 22/08/2018 18:33

I first read it as Alice then retook and saw it was

MrsMolehillMountain · 22/08/2018 18:34

Alcie?
Not Alice?

SoupDragon · 22/08/2018 18:34

It looks like a shortening of alcoholic.

kenandbarbie · 22/08/2018 18:35

Hmm I'd think they've spelled Alice wrong or else it sounds like Alky as in alcoholic

EduCated · 22/08/2018 18:35

I would also assume it was a typo. I did, in fact.

Is it meant to be like Elsie?

imip · 22/08/2018 18:35

It’s spelt Elsie

cholka · 22/08/2018 18:35

Alcie U. Nextweek

Sorry posted too soon

Alcie (Al-sea)?

Lovely name, maybe be prepared for people to think Alice first. The human mind is programmed to do this with jumbled letters.

Eg.
"It deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe."

ivenoideawhatimdoing · 22/08/2018 18:41

I read it as Alcy as in alcoholic.

Personally I wouldn’t - could you call her Alice and nick name her alcie at home?

ArtisanPopcorn · 22/08/2018 18:44

If I saw it written down I'd think you meant Alice.

If it's pronounced how I think it is I'd think you'd said Elsie.

And yeah, I also though alcoholic.

SuperSuperSuper · 22/08/2018 18:45

I misread it as Alice too but I think it's pretty. People mixing it up with Alice (writing) and Elsie (speaking) would put me off though, I'm short on patience.

I didn't make the alcoholic connection at all.

Glumglowworm · 22/08/2018 19:23

It’s awful

It looks like a typo of Alice

My first thought on realising it wasn’t was alky as in alcoholic

emvy · 22/08/2018 19:26

Spelt ‘Elsie’, then yes, one of my favourite names actually. ‘Alcie’ makes me think it’s pronounced ‘Alky’ as well.

MikeUniformMike · 22/08/2018 19:38

Alky

buttercup54321 · 22/08/2018 19:48

Alky Ulcer Alice Elsie Dulcie Alcie. All very similar.

Condragulations · 22/08/2018 19:58

I didn’t read Alky at all but I did think Alice. Alcie actually sounds very beautiful but written down it just looks like a typo unfortunately.

Elsie is definitely better. Still pretty but doesn’t look like you’ve misspelled Alice.

MeyMary · 22/08/2018 20:56

I thought you were asking about a nn for a boy named Alcide (before opening the thread), tbh...

wildewillow · 22/08/2018 21:00

Sounds nice. Looks dreadful

PassportBridgetPants · 22/08/2018 22:21

Ha, ok. Yep had been thinking to pronounce it Al-see. Didn't think of the alky or Alice thing. Ah well.

TheHobbitMum · 22/08/2018 22:35

Sorry I read it as a slang name for alcoholic

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 22/08/2018 22:39

No it looks wrong. Like a typo of Alice.

DollyDayScream · 22/08/2018 22:47

It looks like a miss spelling and sounds like "I'll see".

Alice is lovely and Dulce is sweet.

MeyMary · 23/08/2018 00:14

I guess you could spell it Alsie? Or Elsie. Elsie is lovely imo.

I personally really don't like Dulcie.

Joeybee · 23/08/2018 02:34

Just looks like a typo of Alice tbh. It has a nice sound and meaning but I wouldn't use it.
