Just that really, dd is due next month and those are our top two.

Iris. Mina makes me thing of a heavy-smoking, 60-something Glaswegian.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 22/08/2018 20:12

Iris.

cheesydoesit · 22/08/2018 20:21

I think they are both lovely. Sorry, that's not helpful!

Goostacean · 22/08/2018 20:25

Argh, can’t decide... Probably Iris. Just. What’s your surname like, that might sway it for me...

Yeah, I think Iris. Love it!

DramaAlpaca · 22/08/2018 20:28

Iris

Sophronia · 22/08/2018 20:56

Iris

Youaremysunshine4eva · 22/08/2018 21:59

Iris is lovely x

toothtruth · 22/08/2018 22:01

I love them both but would choose Mina... because of Winnona Ryder in Dracula!

TatianaLarina · 22/08/2018 22:08

Iris

w4ytoomuch · 22/08/2018 22:17

I have never heard of Iris as a "rainbow baby" name

Electrack · 22/08/2018 22:31

Mina is a bit harsh sounding

CatPatrol · 22/08/2018 22:39

I have never heard of Iris as a "rainbow baby" name

As someone whose baby did die, perhaps I am privy to more groups and other forums where bereaved parents chat. I can promise you that it is one of the most popular names (although often a middle name) for girls born after a loss. Iris was the Greek goddess of rainbows. You can look it up the link between the name and neonatal/stillbirth/miscarriage loss if you wish - even on Mumsnet you will find many conversations about it.

Don't get the adoration for Iris. It's part of the eye, a clinical term.

TatianaLarina · 22/08/2018 23:03

It’s a beautiful flower, and the Greek goddess of the sky and the sea, she embodies the rainbow.

Picknickers · 22/08/2018 23:45

Iris is a gorgeous name. Nina I just think Meaner. Do you like Nina?

oldmother44 · 26/08/2018 18:13

I have an Iris. Is a great name to shout I-RIS!!!!

oldmother44 · 26/08/2018 18:14

That's I-RIS!

MollyHuaCha · 26/08/2018 18:18

Iris every time.

TheWizardofWas · 26/08/2018 18:20

Mina is lovely. Iris far too common.

DitsyAndTheGang · 26/08/2018 20:19

I prefer Mina (if pronounced Meena).

bridgetreilly · 26/08/2018 21:23

Iris is used for a LOT of babies who aren't 'rainbow babies', though. It's a perfectly normal name and there would be no reason for anyone to assume that was why.
