My DD has 2 middle names and I’m planning on giving my next DD two as well (when I finally decide on a first name - have a thread about that at the moment!)

I pick one name that I love and another with sentimental/family meaning. After the birth has been announced the middle names become forgotten about and aren’t used in everyday life so it doesn’t really matter imo if someone has none, one or five.

Lynne1Cat · 21/08/2018 22:12

I personally can't see the point in having any middle names at all - does anyone actually use them for anything? I never even mention my middle name to anyone, and my signature is just initial of first name, with surname.

Do whatever you like - it's your child. Nothing really to do with anyone else.

NerdyBird · 21/08/2018 22:13

No, loads of my family have two middle names.

GemmaB78 · 21/08/2018 22:14

Our son has 2. We couldn't narrow our shortlist down so kept all 3. My husband is of a nationality where using a middle name in place of your first name is more common than in GB. So our son has 2 to chose from if he doesn't like his given first name!

I have two middle names, my full name is quite long but I've never had to use my middle names at all so it's never been a problem. It's been a tradition in my family for a long time so i continued it with DS. I think if the first name is long stick to short middle names and vice versa

Mayhemmumma · 21/08/2018 22:17

I have three and they are a pain. I don't use them except for official forms and the names never fit. A ridiculous mouthful.

Give one, one is Good.

Blinkatme182 · 21/08/2018 22:20

My DS has 2 middle names.

One is a family name and the other is the middle name we liked.

DaisyChainsForever · 21/08/2018 22:25

My DS has 2 middle names, both family names. I don't expect them to ever be used apart from official purposes!

TroysMammy · 21/08/2018 22:27

It didn't hold Milly Molly Mandy back.

LiveatCityHall · 21/08/2018 22:29

My DS has 2. He's named after mine and DHs grandfathers

DramaAlpaca · 21/08/2018 22:30

Two middle names are fine.

SmellyKelly81 · 21/08/2018 22:33

My DD has two middle names too. Mainly because I wanted to use both my best friends name and my mums middle name. My other two children only have one middle name

GlitterGlassEye · 21/08/2018 22:34

I have 2 and all 3 of my dc have 2 middle names after much loved family members. It’s on their birth certificates and passports and that’s it. I don’t introduce myself and them to people with all of the names.

Nutkins24 · 21/08/2018 22:36

No my dd has two middle names, family ones. It’s nice

ThanksHunkyJesus · 21/08/2018 22:36

Mine have 2 middle names. Their first names are totally their own, their first middle names are family names and the second middle names are ones my stepchildren picked.

OrdinaryGirl · 21/08/2018 23:07

I have two middle names and it's a pain. Three letters on a monogram is so much more elegant.

ZebraKid71 · 21/08/2018 23:07

My dds have two middle names - both have their first name followed by two family names, one from my side and one from dhs side.

Stillnotready · 21/08/2018 23:12

Yes they are a pain in the neck. I wish I hadn’t blighted my 2 younger dc with 2 middle names. Filling out forms etc takes forever

bridgetreilly · 21/08/2018 23:16

Why would it be different for a girl or a boy, OP? What a weird question.

LauraJanee · 22/08/2018 16:37

My sister has two middle names Terri Louise

YeTalkShiteHen · 22/08/2018 16:41

DD and DS2 both have 2 middle names, family names. DDs names (including her first name) are both her grannies and my grannie. DS2 was only going to have one, but my best friend died while I was pregnant with him and I asked her husband if I could use the male version of her name in DS2s name.

ReginaPhalange89 · 22/08/2018 16:59

I don't see the point tbh, unless they have special meaning. I don't have any, neither do my kids or OH. Don't really see the need
