Keith?

Is there an alternative/ shortening for Keith?

My DP is keen to use it to honour a family member of his but I really don’t like it. He’s happy to go with a variation i.e. Jonnie instead of Jonathan or Cate instead of Catherine but that just doesn’t seem to exist for Keith.

At a push he might go for a different name but same meaning.

I can’t have a baby Keith (just FYI he’s not insisting on it)

I think you could get away with Kit, it's a lovely name too!

Thistles24 · 19/08/2018 21:51

I’d go for Keith over Oliver/George/ Henry any day! It’s not my favourite name, but it could be far worse. Could pretty much guarantee he’d be the only one in his class (there were just 2 Keiths born in Scotland last year) and it’s unusual without being too “unique”. I’d mull it over for a while longer- maybe it’ll grow on you!

BakedBeans47 · 19/08/2018 22:03

Oh dear I’d say middle name only for that one. It’s up there with Baby Clive really isn’t it.

bobstersmum · 19/08/2018 22:06

Bloody Forrest, I understand thy reasoning but it doesn't work. Keith is just going to be Keith Lemon.

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 19/08/2018 22:07

I started the thread thinking oh god please not Keith, but the more I read it and say it in my head the more I like it. I think it’s objectively nice but just very ‘of a time’. Keith nickname Kit would probably get away with it.

Annarex · 19/08/2018 22:23

Like others, the more I think about it, the more I like it. It's an attractive sound, a strong sounding name and a nice meaning.

In any case I bet it is going to be red hot in 10 years or so, when it cycles round.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 20/08/2018 05:03

Keith’s up there with Brian & Kevin. Middle name only option!

OutPinked · 20/08/2018 09:01

I feel for you, my DP was set on both Raymond and Geoffrey for a while. Thankfully managed to steer him away...

Definitely don’t use Keith, it’s never been cool and doubt it ever will be Grin.

dangerrabbit · 20/08/2018 09:21

I think it’s a good name as it’s unusual and a sting name due a comeback in about 20 years.

dangerrabbit · 20/08/2018 09:21

Strong!

sirlee66 · 20/08/2018 09:27

There once was an old man named Keith,
Who had a pair of false teeth,
Put them down on a chair,
Forgot they were there,
Sat down and was bitten beneath.

Zamaz · 20/08/2018 19:27

Keifer? As in Sutherland? Maybe?

Shartnado · 20/08/2018 19:41

My husbands name is Keith and I'm pissing myself reading this thread! A lot of raised eyebrows from him at some of the comments I read out to him GrinGrinGrin

Shartnado · 20/08/2018 19:42

Ps his nickname from me is queef...

MikeUniformMike · 20/08/2018 19:47

Keith nicknamed Kit? Why?

MikeUniformMike · 20/08/2018 19:50

Just call him Firstname Keith Sunshine or Keith Middlename Sunshine.
Nobody would raise an eyebrow if you called him Heath.
There will be several Kits the same age, so scrap that.

knowledgeofnone · 20/08/2018 19:54

What about leith? Almost there but not quite.. I've seen it pronounced as Lay-f before which I actually think is quite nice. Every Keith I know has a giant moustache 😂

MikeUniformMike · 20/08/2018 19:55

Keith Heath Leith Sunshine. Sorted!

AnneLovesGilbert · 20/08/2018 19:58

Have you seen the car rental advert where the woman calls her parents and says she’s moving to Milton Keynes with her lover/father figure Keith and all the other cult members all echo “Keeeeeth” Grin

hungryhippie · 20/08/2018 20:02

I like it!
Its a nice sound and no child will remember the name in the way we do. Its definitely due a comeback!

N0bodysM0t · 20/08/2018 20:04

I don't know why I don't like it for a baby when I do quite like it for a man.

Logically this means I'm just dictated to by naming fashions I know. If I was chatting to somebody on POF and his name turned out to be Keith, I'd think ''nice name'' but on a baby? no.

I quite like Jeff though, which gets no love either on mumsnet.

PuppyMonkey · 20/08/2018 20:05

My DP used to call his beloved old blue van Keith. It’s a great name for a van, imho. Grin

YolandiFuckinVisser · 20/08/2018 20:05

If you have a daughter in the future, please call her Candice-Marie

KeithLeMonde · 20/08/2018 20:07

You're all very rude Grin

OP, I think it's lovely to honour a family member. If you're not convinced by it as a first name then middle name is definitely the way to go.
