DD2 due in a couple of months. Which of these 2 do you prefer? These are the current final two but are subject to change Grin

Other names that I like but cannot use are Romilly, Merryn, Marnie, Cassia.

Juliet is lovely. More timeless too.

OneOfEach2 · 19/08/2018 10:12

If DC2 were another dd she'd 100% have been called Sylvie. I absolutely love it.
(Stuck on boys names now!)

Juliet.

pouraglasshalffull · 19/08/2018 10:53

Sylvie definitely! I can just never imagine any under the age of 25 being called Juliet

I don't think you'll have trouble with people confusing it with Sylvia, people have lots of names that could end with either A or E (Evie, Eva, Rosie, Rosa etc)

MikeUniformMike · 19/08/2018 11:00

Sylvie is ok in France. Sylvia is absolutely horrible.

RoseMartha · 19/08/2018 11:01

Juliet

butlerswharf · 19/08/2018 11:07

Juliet by a very long way.

Sophronia · 19/08/2018 12:38

Sylvie

bridgetreilly · 19/08/2018 13:10

Whilst I like Slyvie I really don’t like Slyvia although I know there is no logic to that

Reason #1 to pick Juliet.

17caterpillars1mouse · 19/08/2018 21:37

Love Sylvie, not so keen on Juliet

NorfolkNellie · 20/08/2018 15:43

Both lovely but I prefer Sylvie.

Zamaz · 20/08/2018 19:25

LOVE Sylvie

SuperstarDJ · 20/08/2018 20:25

Am still undecided Blush Juliet has been the only constant on our list but something is stopping me from being completely 100% about it.

We have a 3-year-old Sylvie and a few people call her Sylvia but it's not a big issue, she just corrects them. She loves her name Grin

The only things I'd say is that I prefer it written down to spoken, and that you will find yourself shortening it to 'Sylv' even if you don't intend to! It's been a lovely name for dd though and I'm glad we chose it.

vitaminC · 20/08/2018 20:30

I love both Juliet and Juliette (I would pronounce them differently).
Sylvie is a frumpy french housewife, though. Sorry. It was really overused in France for most of the 1950s and 60s. I know literally dozens!

OneAndDoneForNow · 20/08/2018 20:37

Sylvie for sure. There seems to be heaps of Juliet's just now

JW1226 · 20/08/2018 20:44

Sylvie is lovely and I don't know how you'd get it confused with Sylvia it's a different name in my opinion xx

zozozoo · 20/08/2018 20:45

Sylvie - love it

SuperstarDJ · 20/08/2018 20:52

VitC how do you pronounce Juliet in comparison to Juliette?

One i’d really like to avoid a name that is overused especially as DD1’s name isn’t very common (not in my region anyway). I know that Juliet is a classic timeless name but I’ve yet to ever meet one of any age. What region are you in if you don’t mind sharing?

needyourlovingtouch · 20/08/2018 20:57

Oh my- are you me! These are two (fairly unusual I think) names which I love and would use if I ever had a DD (which isn't going to happen).

They are both beautiful. I think I prefer Juliet but Sylvia is so pretty however I knew a Middle Aged lady growing up so associate it with that.

ChellySmuff · 20/08/2018 20:57

Juliet seems to be a pretty popular name where I am. There’s a 2 in one of our baby groups and a Juliette in another.

I do know a baby Sylvie, sister to Daphne (which is an awesome name!)

vitaminC · 20/08/2018 20:58

Juliet I would pronounce like Julia with a t at the end. Like in Romeo and Juliet.

Juliette I would pronounce Julie-ETT.

Both are pretty, IMO, although Juliette probably travels better.

MudCity · 20/08/2018 20:59

Sylvie. Without a doubt! Could be shortened to ‘Vie’ or ‘V’.

SuperstarDJ · 20/08/2018 21:12

There’s very little difference in how I pronounce Juliet and Juliette if any.

I pronounce Juliet like it’s said here which to me doesn’t sound like Julia-t. Have I been saying it wrong all this time? Shock

Love both. You can’t go wrong with either. Like them loads more than your other suggestions. I would personally go with Juliet; it just seems a stronger name.
