Thoughts on Fox as a middle name for DS? I think it’s too out there for a first but DH loves it so considering for a middle name and wanted opinions

I think maybe it's just about okay for a middle name. I hate the 'foxy' connotation, though. And can you imagine when he goes grey - he'll be the silver fox.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 18/08/2018 20:28

It's pretty different. I quite like it.

Treaclepie19 · 18/08/2018 20:32

I like it. I'd use it as a first name if it worked with our surname.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 18/08/2018 20:33

Why call your child after an animal? 🦊🦊
Very odd.

MissBax · 18/08/2018 20:34

Why?!

BarefootHippieChick · 18/08/2018 20:34

As long as your surname's not Mulder!

WhatAmISupposedToBeDoing · 18/08/2018 20:35

❤❤

I had a friend as a teen who was only known as 'Foxy' because of his surname, I don't actually know what his actual first name was! It was cool as a nickname, and while I wouldn't have it as a first name it would be fine as a middle imo.

QuoadUltra · 18/08/2018 20:35

It’s a bit needy.

BarefootHippieChick · 18/08/2018 20:38

Whatami hmmmm!!

2018wedding · 18/08/2018 20:38

Thanks for responses - mixed as expected! If you were told it was a family name (surname), would that make it less weird for those that aren’t keen?

We've used it as a middle name. Still love it years on and so does he.

NoSleepTil2030 · 18/08/2018 20:39

I think as a middle name it's ok. I agree with a pp that it's a bit needy for a first name. A bit "look at me", y'know?

pouraglasshalffull · 18/08/2018 20:40

Whats the first name? I don't like it but I also think it doesn't matter that much, people don't really take too much notice of middle names as they get older he might just get the odd "haha your middle name is fox!?" as he gets older but that's it

2018wedding · 18/08/2018 20:40

Surname isn’t Mulder (unfortunately Grin)
It does flow nicely with our chosen first name and surname

I absolutely bloody love it :). Would use it as a first name if I were ever going to have another.

Bella898 · 18/08/2018 20:41

I agree its a bit much as a first name but really cool as a middle name. And if he really loves it why not? Middle names are rarely used except in formal documents etc

meadowmeow · 18/08/2018 20:43

I know of a first name Fox and it really suits him

SunsetOverEasterIsland · 18/08/2018 20:48

Great name as either a first or middle name, it's cool. Definitely go for it if you and your DH love it Smile

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 18/08/2018 20:50

It’s getting borderline common here in leafy suburban SW London/Surrey

I know of three.

For me, it smacks of being too try hard, I’m sorry. In keeping with the “natural” theme though what about Rowan?

Normandy144 · 18/08/2018 20:50

I love it. I know a couple (admittedly they are North American so maybe it is more normal there) but they used it as a middle name for their son. I really like it.

Stpancras · 18/08/2018 20:52

We have it as a middle name, always complimented and he loves it.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 18/08/2018 20:52

OP, if it’s a family name then yes, I get it now.

Like it’s quite common for some folk to have a “surname” as a middle name IYSWIM?

Cbeebiesrehab · 18/08/2018 21:29

As a middle name-why not! If he dislikes it he doesn’t have to disclose it to anyone else but may grow up and love it and start using it as his given name! Best of both worlds I say.

CruCru · 18/08/2018 21:55

It’s okay as a middle name.
