Camille or Felicity?

Which name do you prefer as a sibling for Vivienne? With Camille we live in England so would go with the English pronounciation (Kah-meel) but nickname would be Cami so as the French pronounce Kah-mee. I love Felicity but struggle to find a nice nickname. Thanks in advance!

Never heard Camille pronounced Kahmeel, ever

That’s weird because it’s a pretty standard pronunciation in UK. My son has a name that exists in French and English with same spelling but different pronunciation. Similarly Camille is not a French name. It’s just a name pronounced different,y in different languages.

Cbeebiesrehab · 18/08/2018 12:53

I’m struggling to see how Camille could be pronounced any other way than that the OP suggested?
I think Camille goes better with Vivienne but they are both lovely.

TatianaLarina · 18/08/2018 13:14

That’s weird because it’s a pretty standard pronunciation in UK.

Absolute nonsense. Camille in the U.K. is pronounced as in Camilla - ie Cuhmeel. Or if the person is actually French, Caameel. Kahmeel is one of those embarrassing mistakes that British who don’t speak languages make.

Camille is the French version of the Latin Camilla/us. In Spain it’s Camila, in E.Europe it’s often spelt with a K.

ReginaPhalange89 · 18/08/2018 17:11

Not keen on Camille , sounds a bit too posh lol

I think Vivienne and Felicity sounds much nicer

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 18/08/2018 17:13

I know a Felicity who goes by Fliss.

I think it's very pretty and much prefer to Camille

BurritoSquad · 18/08/2018 17:16

I have a Felicity and her friends often call her Fliss/y , Floss/y , Fifi . She doesn't like being called Flick

IStillDrinkCava · 18/08/2018 17:16

Cuhmeel and Kahmeel

IStillDrinkCava · 18/08/2018 17:22

Cuhmeel and Kahmeel sound pretty indistinguishable to me. We must be interpreting Kahmeel differently.

I prefer Felicity, because Cami reminds me of underwear - camisole or cami knickers. This may just be me.

weebarra · 18/08/2018 17:24

I love Camille. Felicity is a bit "wet".

ismellsnow · 18/08/2018 17:35

I much prefer Camille, it's a beautiful name (as is Vivienne, good choices OP!)

pipilangstrumpf · 18/08/2018 17:35

What is 'wet' Confused?

MikeUniformMike · 18/08/2018 19:10

Camille. Not keen on Felicity and don't like Flick. Fliss/Flissy is ok.

weebarra · 18/08/2018 19:12

I suppose I would say I don't feel it's a very strong name.

pipilangstrumpf · 18/08/2018 19:50

Oh, so wet means not strong. Thanks

Enidblyton1 · 18/08/2018 19:56

What is your Vivienne shortened to? I love the nickname Vivi. But do you want a Vivi and a Cami? A bit twee.

Another prion could be Camilla, then you have the option of Mila or Cami.

Felicity is a lovely name, but I’ve never liked any of the shortenings that much.

Enidblyton1 · 18/08/2018 19:57

*option

Quizeerascal · 18/08/2018 20:05

Camille goes slightly better with Vivienne imo but both Felicity and Camille are both lovely names and Fliss might work well as a nn

Ginger1982 · 18/08/2018 20:13

Tatiana, it depends where you live. In Scotland where I am we would (or I would) say Kahmeel or Kahmilla.

TatianaLarina · 18/08/2018 20:54

OP is talking about England, and the other poster claimed it’s ‘standard’ for the UK’. It’s not.

Ginger1982 · 18/08/2018 22:03

But neither is the pronunciation you're saying 'standard' in the UK either. That's what I was trying to say.

BonnieLass5 · 18/08/2018 22:24

Camille 100%. So strong and classic. Love Cami too.

Felicity is awful. The definition of wet fish.

CaseFace30 · 18/08/2018 22:28

I know a Felicity nicknames Fliss.

I prefer Camille, personally.

LeeMiller · 18/08/2018 22:46

Camille is nice, in both French and English.

Felicity usually becomes Flick or Fliss. I find Felicity/Fliss wet and Flick a bit harsh.

MarshaBradyo · 18/08/2018 22:49

Camille, I like the nickname too

I really dislike all the nicknames for Felicity

TatianaLarina · 18/08/2018 22:55

‘Standard in the UK’ is as an absurd phrase and not one that I came up with. The OP specified England and English pronunciation and that’s what I’m referring to. Standard for Scotland is a different matter.
