I really love the name "Wren", and I'm thinking about using it for my son due in October. I know it's a trifle feminine, but is it TOO feminine to use on a boy? Any thoughts?!
Thanks!

I like Wren for a boy or a girl. It's definitely a unisex name so go for it x

Topseyt · 16/08/2018 19:45

Not for me, and certainly not for a boy.

I think of the nursery rhyme character Jenny Wren, personally.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 16/08/2018 19:59

I wouldn't for a boy sorry.

dillytilly · 16/08/2018 21:43

I quite like it! Like Christopher Wren!

Cariadxx · 16/08/2018 22:33

I really wouldn't use it on a boy. I wouldn't use it full stop but I've heard much worse! If you really have to use it, use it on a girl

Smoliver · 16/08/2018 23:55

I know a Wren who is a boy - 1 years old. I think people will assume it as a girls name, but still usable for a boy.

moredoll · 17/08/2018 00:19

Not keen

Goostacean · 17/08/2018 00:45

I like it, I think it’s a pretty name but not effeminate. Going against the grain, it seems! It’s a boy’s name, to me- but I’ve never met anyone called Wren.

Marcipex · 17/08/2018 08:28

No, it's too girly...Jenny Wren is so well known.

There must be other possible bird names.
Jay is all I can think of.

AtticaRose · 17/08/2018 08:34

Hmm I mostly think of the WRENS in WWII (women's navy).

Fireba11 · 17/08/2018 08:53

I don't think it's particularly one gender or the other for me. It is unusual and it would put me off personally that he would have to spell it every single time he gave his name, but that doesn't bother everyone!

Icklepup · 17/08/2018 14:03

I think it's ok on a boy but everyone's likely to think it's a girl when reading the name.

pouraglasshalffull · 17/08/2018 14:08

I like Wren for a girl, think it's too feminine for a boy, it seems to be gaining popularity for girls but I've never heard of a boy being called it

sirmione16 · 17/08/2018 14:09

I really like it for a boy personally

TatianaLarina · 17/08/2018 14:27

Wren is definitely a girl’s name. It would be an embarrassing name for a boy.

RiverTam · 17/08/2018 14:28

I know a girl Wren but I don't see why you couldnt use it for a boy - Robin is unisex.

I like it.

TatianaLarina · 17/08/2018 14:30

Robin is a very wet name for a boy.

Not many boys/men want to be named after ickle birds.

pouraglasshalffull · 17/08/2018 14:34

Hahaha I agree about Robin being a very wet name!

Maybe it would help to imagine your son when he's an 18 year old and going out, I think the name is cute as a baby, but not for when he gets older

xoguineas · 17/08/2018 16:28

I love it OP. Never heard of Wren as a girls name, only ever heard it in regards to boys.

Failingat40 · 17/08/2018 16:40

He certainly won't thank you for it.

There's hundreds of names out there, why give him an effeminate little birdie name?

He's going to grow into a man one day you know.

Rob? A good strong name.

moredoll · 19/08/2018 16:35

Merlin

daisypond · 19/08/2018 16:41

Not right for a boy at all. It's a tiny bird.

bridgetreilly · 19/08/2018 18:18

I would definitely assume it was a girl, sorry.

Guardsman18 · 19/08/2018 18:21

I know a Ren (a man). Could you drop the W?

MikeUniformMike · 19/08/2018 20:15

Wren is fine for a surname but not as a first name. How about Heron or Kestrel.
