Would you use this name if you lived in Australia?

I love it 😍 also Adalyn is so pretty

goldilachs · 16/08/2018 12:18

I love it, but I don't think I would use it living here. I'm in Perth, I've never met an Adelaide in Australia.

Lightsonthewater · 16/08/2018 12:23

It’s a beautiful name. No idea if I’d avoid using it if in Aus but as a name, it’s stunning

kettleonplease · 16/08/2018 12:33

I guess it may translate to 'Would you use London as a name if you lived in the UK'? Mind you I think Adelaide is a much nicer name than London 😂

It's a really pretty name but I wouldn't use it in Australia. I knew someone in NZ who used it and I was ooooooooooookay.

squirrelnutkins1 · 16/08/2018 12:54

Nice👍🏻

goldopals · 16/08/2018 12:58

I'm from Adelaide. No chance in hell I'd ever call a kid that. I'm not opposed to place names in general, but Adelaide is too close to home

kettleonplease · 16/08/2018 22:43

Fair enough, I think we'll rule that one out then :)

I like it and think it'll grow in popularity like Matilda did.
Addie for short?
I'm in Oz.

DC2018 · 16/08/2018 22:47

I would assume there's a connection to the place and that's why she is called that. That being said I live in Scotland and know Skyes, Lewis and Harris which are places here x

PenelopeFlintstone · 17/08/2018 01:48

Adelaide the place was named after a person, though. It's an actual girl's name.

Quantumblue · 17/08/2018 02:06

I know one who was born there and still lives there. It has not held her back.

moredoll · 17/08/2018 02:09

Nope

Faroutbrussel · 17/08/2018 02:14

I know an Adeline which is a nice name. I wouldn't use either if I lived in SA though. What would you think if you met a little boy called Sydney?

PenelopeFlintstone · 17/08/2018 03:35

I think Australians would find it patriotic/nostalgic, like Matilda and Banjo.

kettleonplease · 17/08/2018 09:09

Funnily enough I did meet a little girl (!) called Sydney. Her Australian Mum had given birth in Dubai and didn't think she was going to come back to live in Australia so called her that to remind her of her roots. Next thing you know, they moved back to Sydney. I did find it a bit odd before I heard the story behind it!

I like it, if I was ever to have another DD it would be a contender along with Adeline.

PenelopeFlintstone · 18/08/2018 04:30

I know a girl called Sydney, too. 15 years old and in Australia.

Zommum · 18/08/2018 05:03

I'm in Adelaide too and wouldn't use that as a name.

Kickittome · 18/08/2018 05:17

When I lived in the suburbs of Adelaide I had a neighbour who named their daughter Adelaide. I did think it was a bit weird. Beautiful name but I wouldn't have used it in that situation.

Madeline18 · 18/08/2018 05:19

I work with an Adelaide, it's lovely. I have also met an Australian with daughters Audrey and Adelaide.

LavenderHills · 20/08/2018 12:30

Nobody bats an eyelid when Australians name their daughters Victoria. I think it's fine. Use it if you live it.
