Irish names for a boy?

Help please! We're expecting a son imminently and are absolutely nowhere near choosing a name! DH is Irish but we live in the UK (I'm English).

We'd love an Irish name for our DS. We loved Finn, but turns out that's the name of every half-Irish boy in our town! DH likes Flynn, but I know a female Flynn and can't shake the association.

Our surname is subtly Irish and we're considering Jack as a middle name (DH's beloved granddad). Our DD has a French first name and a slightly crazy (but beautiful!) middle name. I'm not looking for matchy-matchiness but do probably need a fairly substantial name to complement hers!

Any fab ideas out there? Thanks in advance!

What about Fintan? I love Flynn though and don’t associate it as a girl’s name.

I also like Cormac and Cillian.

I always really liked Phelam or phelan- not sure how you spell it
Cillian is also lovely and Tadgh but think it has negative connotations in Northern Ireland

Like you, my DH is Irish and we like in England as I’m English. Our 2 year old DS Conor which I love because it’s a nod to the Irish and it’s known/easy to pronounce in England.

Phelim. It can be pronounced Fell-im or Fay-lim. I've known both, though Fell-im is my preference.

YeTalkShiteHen · 14/08/2018 08:24

Tadhg is my favourite! Not pronounced the same way as the slur (I hate that word, been called it many times)

I do like Darragh as well though.
