Are three names + surname too many?

The reason I ask is because DH and I both love two different potential middle names for a girl and rather than one of us losing the coin toss we were thinking we should perhaps have both. But would four names be overkill? Our surname is very boring and only one syllable, which simplifies things a bit. I just wonder whether four names would be a bit faffy for her when she gets to the stage of filling in forms for school, work etc. Or am I just really lazy? Grin

I have four names and it’s fine.

Knittedfairies · 10/08/2018 15:29

My son has 3 names + surname; never an issue.

MrsSteptoe · 10/08/2018 15:30

DS has four names, one of which is a four-letter, one syllable, surname. None of the names is very long, six letters is the longest. If you're thinking of Elisabetta Hepzibah Georgiana, it might be a bit of a faff.

TheGhostOfYou · 10/08/2018 15:36

My name is like this, not a fan of it (probably because I dislike all of my names) but it's fine.

Raines100 · 10/08/2018 15:38

I have 2 middle names. It has had zero impact on my life.

CherryTangfastics · 10/08/2018 15:39

My DS has 4 names including a double-barrelled surname (so technically 5 separate names) never been a problem. DH's name follows the same format and we'll be continuing it for DS2 when he arrives.

You might find on some official documents, the second middle name might be omitted if the whole thing is too long.

Figgygal · 10/08/2018 15:39

Both my boys have 2 middle names

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 10/08/2018 15:40

Both my kids have three names plus surname. DH reckons it sounds better for cricketers...not that they are likely to be, but hey ho

Figgygal · 10/08/2018 15:40

Dh insisted on it for when they open the batting fir England apparently multiple initials is the done thing in cricket

HirplesWithHaggis · 10/08/2018 15:41

Dgs has four names, his "own" and two after much loved and sadly deceased great-grandfathers, and his last name. Go for it. :)

mummabearfourbabybears · 10/08/2018 15:43

All four of my children have four names.

mummabearfourbabybears · 10/08/2018 15:44

Blush actually no, my three sons each have four names. My daughter just has three

Roomba · 10/08/2018 15:47

DS1 has three names plus a double barrelled surname (though he now only uses the last surname). Not an issue at all, except on passport forms as his name is 31 letters (form has 30 spaces). So his second middle name was left off the main page, and the full name appears under 'Official Observations' instead.

Jillyjollyjandy · 10/08/2018 15:48

My children have two middle names and a double barrelled surname.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 10/08/2018 16:03

Jillyjollyjandy snap my DD has two middles and a double barrelled surname.

MeyMary · 10/08/2018 16:04

It's fine imo :)

LucyMD · 10/08/2018 16:04

Absolutely fine! Its rare that you often say the full name outloud after initially telling people their name anyway so can't see it being much of an issue. And congratulations!

DuggeeHugs · 10/08/2018 16:06

My DC each have two middle names. Their second middle names are from a different culture and are spelt in English using two different names so it looks as if they have four names + surname

BikeRunSki · 10/08/2018 16:08

Me, my siblings and my children all have 3 given names + surname. It’s fine.

Manderleyagain · 10/08/2018 16:09

My kids have 3 names and surname. A few people in both families do. It's never caused any trouble. Though as a kid I was a bit jealous of my brother having two middle names when I only had one - so there's that to think of.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 10/08/2018 16:10

Both our DC have 2 middle names, Dh has 3 but I think that's excessive. You just need to make sure the initials don't spell anything dubious.

Dadsbigsausages · 10/08/2018 16:10

My brother has two middle names and a difficult to spell three syllable surname and he says it hasn't made any difference to his life to have 4 names. Just don't make them difficult to spell 😀 (he's beside me now Grin)

Starstruck2020 · 10/08/2018 16:14

My DS has 2 middle names he was our only boy and definitely last child and there were some names we just had to use.

It suits him, they fit nicely together and he likes it.

MIL, when told of the names said “all serial killers have 3 names”. But she’s not known for her tact.

DappledThings · 10/08/2018 19:40

Another one who has a DS with two middle names to increase his chance of being England cricket captain. DD has only one middle name because the women's game is much more progressive so it matter less.

MustBeThursday · 10/08/2018 20:05

DH has 2 middle names, as do both of our daughters. Not a problem.
