After hearing everyone tell me not to use it due to Amazon I’m quite sure Alexa is out of the running but just had some questions spurred by other posters. Have been told Lexie is chavvy (please don’t come at me with how horrible the word is as I’m simply parroting what I’ve been told) and am just confused/wondering how? Is it just me who sees it as a perfectly reasonable nn? Confused

Oh, and I'd go for Alexandra. Fabulous name.

notanotheroneisit · 10/08/2018 22:33

I’m in Scotland, but would consider it chavvy I’m afraid.

Olivo · 10/08/2018 22:40

What about Alex? Even though it is short, there are a number of nicknames, including Lex.

Snoopychildminder · 10/08/2018 22:42

My lovely friend has DD lexi she is wonderful.
You are always going to get comments, what’s that phrase...those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.
If you like it, don’t let the ‘chavvy’ Hmm comments put you off!

Disneyrules · 10/08/2018 22:51

I personally love the name and don't consider it chavvy at all. Only thing that puts me off it is because it rhymes with sexy and it would worry me that they might get the mick taken out of them when they're older. If say go for it, as it's a very pretty name and your baby will turn out the way you bring it up, a name doesn't define a person's behaviour x

Shadowboxerbaby · 10/08/2018 23:01

@Awrite what is the book name? I have a friend who's daughters are those names!

Op Lexie not chavvy here in Scotland

Awrite · 10/08/2018 23:38

It's Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng.

Shadowboxerbaby · 10/08/2018 23:51

Thanks, I'm going to buy a copy for my friend :)

Lucylookingforhelp · 10/08/2018 23:55

Hi, thanks everyone. Things have taken a turn and we’ve decided on Margot as I think it has Alexa’s strength with, what I personally find, more elegance. Think middle name will be Evangeline but thanks again!!

Margot Evangeline- incredible name, very beautiful x

MeyMary · 11/08/2018 04:13

Margot Evangeline is beautiful.

AtlantaGinandTonic · 11/08/2018 04:43

Margot Evangeline is a beautiful name. I love the name Margot but DH did not! We have an Alexa and I tend to use the nn Lexa. I've said that if the Amazon artificial intelligence software carries on, she is free to use her middle name if she is fed up of people asking her a million questions!

AmyRhodes · 11/08/2018 06:37

I also hate words like "chavvy" and "common" - clearly so class-prejudiced. I know they weren't your words.

I think the reason some people will use these words for Lexi or Lexie is because of its sudden surge in popularity, plus the fact that it is a popular name amongst footballers' children and reality TV stars' children.

Always go with what you like, but I LOVE Margot - it's on our list as well 😊

Hellywelly10 · 11/08/2018 06:40

Go for alexandra. Then you can have either name or drew.

Gizlotsmum · 11/08/2018 06:55

My daughter has a Lexie in her class and I grew up with a Lexie. I like the name and don’t associate it with anything chavvy

SharpLily · 11/08/2018 06:56

I know about six Lexies - they're all blue Staffs belonging to chavs I know, three of them in my family.

Margot Evangeline however is beautiful and as you said, thoroughly elegant. It's making me rethink my choice of names for my next daughter!

Booie09 · 11/08/2018 07:36

Is chavvy the new term for common?? Only 1 Lexi in my daughter's school so not very common!! I prefer it to Alexa but who cares what other people think!
