Nickname for Ditte

My husband and I love the name Ditte after my grandma who im very close with. She has the nickname 'Didi'. Are there any other names you can think of that if we had a Ditte she might get shortened to? My grandma is well known as 'Didi' so unless we can find something different we will have it as a middle name.

Thanks in advance!

Tea or Dot?
I knew a Dot (20 ish) it suited her

Sorry I've never heard of Ditte, how's it pronounced?

pippra · 08/08/2018 11:19

Phonetically it's DEE-TAH x (My grandma is Danish)

Like both of these! Funnily enough my partner and I are both obsessed with tea and the nickname for the baby at the mo is 'Dot' as our scan picture was so early, all we could make out was this tiny dot! Thanks for your thoughts xx

Just Dee.

JaretsGirlfren · 08/08/2018 11:24

Dee?

AtticaRose · 08/08/2018 11:29

Behindthename.com suggests that Ditte is itself a diminutive of Edith or Dorathea. So lots to work with there.

Edie?

Gottokondo · 08/08/2018 11:52

I'd forget abput the nickname. Ditte is fine.

pippra · 08/08/2018 11:56

Agreed, might not need it! Just don't want it to be called 'Didi' x

Nicknames are natural, not contrived.

I don't get why people plan their child's name around a potential nickname.

Enko · 08/08/2018 12:35

smiles reading this.. My grandma was Edith known to all as Ditte its a fantastic name in its own I wouldn't change it to a shorter version.

You could always call her little Didi if you wanted.

pippra · 08/08/2018 13:21

Aw thank you, you have just made me smile :) Ditte is the danish for Edith and Dorothy

Dot or Dotty would be a super-cute nn.

MollyHuaCha · 08/08/2018 14:11

I know a Ditte. The name is just fine as it is without a diminutive.

Quangot · 08/08/2018 17:06

Edie?

MariaMadita · 08/08/2018 17:29

Never heard of the name but I'm assuming it's a version of Dita?

Dee, Deedee, Ditty, Ditzy, Da, Tata :)

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 08/08/2018 18:01

Ditzy is cute !

MartyMcFly1984 · 08/08/2018 18:06

If you love the name why don't you just use it? I wouldn't give a name I love but then call her something else

TatianaLarina · 08/08/2018 18:08

I really like Ditte. It’s so short she might not get a nn. Didi isn’t any shorter.

MariaMadita · 08/08/2018 18:12

But nicknames aren't necessarily shorter than the actual name, are there? Rose -> Rosie, Anne -> Annie, James -> Jamie?

Summersup · 08/08/2018 18:13

No Ditzy isn't cute really, given it's meaning a bit silly/stupid!

Anyway, I've found both my children have grown out of their nicknames and ask me not to call them them in public now!

Ditte is a lovely name IMO and doesn't need a nickname.

TatianaLarina · 08/08/2018 18:14

No that’s true, but it’s inevitable that long names get nns but shorter names don’t always.

MariaMadita · 08/08/2018 18:20

Tatiana

I suppose :) even people with short names get nicknames / petnames in my family but I guess that depends on the situation...
